The Official 2015 2nd Gen Ram OT Thread
Ol girl is starting to finally show her age at 240k. I get a pretty big thick cloud of bluish smoke at startup after it sits all night. It goes away after a few minutes of driving. But if i really get on it or load it its start to spew out some more smoke. Every once and a while i get a little puff of black smoke which makes me think the cylinders are getting washed with gas and washing the oil off.
Damn thing wont get up to 190 either. Stays at 180-170 even if i sit there and try to overheat it. Still have decent heat, but the lower rad hose never gets warm. Its full of water too. Makes me think the stat isnt opening up. Ive tried bleeding all the air out. Cant get it to open up and stay opened up. Tried a few different stats that I all verified worked correctly before installation and after removal.
OH well........ hopefully getting a short block this winter.

Well I got the truck to heat up now. All I to do was completely block the rad with cardboard. Probably because the fan is always on full blast. Who knows.
And it blows smoke when I lay into it. Looked down the throttle body and it is very crustacious, wet and oily looking so looks the plenum is blown again.
Just more reason to get a short block!!!
Damn thing still runs like a champ tho :/

Back when I first started driving in the early '70's, I had a '65 Ford Fairlane with the 200 ci straight six in it.
I decided to get a Standard oil credit card because so long as you kept your balance paid up you got 'free' towing and jump starts if you needed it, there were a few other perks that came with being a card holder. Kinda like having an AAA card.
Since I had the card I would occasionally charge some fuel with it. That helped me get to work some weeks when I was short on cash.
Soon I was buying my gas exclusively at Standard gas stations.
A few weeks into it my car started running like crap so I decided maybe a tune up was in order. When I pulled the plugs they were encrusted with some kind of fluffy looking but really hard yellowish crap. Whatever it was it cleaned off easily but it did not stay off.
I was pulling the plugs at least once a week to clean them. I thought maybe it was the plugs themselves so I bought new ones. Again in a week or so they would be fouled with this crap.
I bought a new set of plugs and started buying gas at other gas stations.
That did the trick. I drove for a few months using anything but Standard gas and had no problems. Then just to make sure I got a few tanks of Standard again and sure enough the fouling problem came back.
I had almost convinced myself it was just the station right in town so I got the Standard gas at stations miles away and still had the problem.
It did not matter if I got the top grade Standard gas or the lowest grade the problem persisted unless I got my gas somewhere else.
These days I buy most of my gas wherever it is the least expensive which is usually at a Murphy gas station at a Walmart store. We go to Walmart a few times a month to get our meds and you get at least 3 cents off per gallon if you use a walmart rechargeable card.
