I always looked at automatic transmissions as magic..... (black magic at that...) You spin one end, and it comes out the other faster, slower, or even the opposite direction. Everything that happens in between is pure magic.

I normally hang out over in the TJ or Jeep Builds section. I have a thread in the Jeep Builds section of my TJ. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f22/w...l-now-2861457/

Well now for this story. 2 weeks ago I helped my son buy a XJ for him and his family so we could all go 4wheeling together. We have been window shopping ever since trying to come up with ideas. Well I also have a 13 year old daughter that is going to need a her own rig to drive pretty soon plus she wants a 4x4 so she can learn to wheel. She says it would be super cool to have her own 4x4 so she could go camping & 4wheeling with her dad and brother in her own rig. Just about made dads heart melt.

So I was surfing around looking on Craigslist last night and came across a 1995 Jeep XJ, 4.0 & AW4 pretty much stock but has a bad alt right now. Paid $700 for it and most likely could have gotten it for less but felt bad for the guy. So now I have two XJ's to work on along with my TJ. The TJ is torn down in the garage right now for getting a 408 stroker engine, built 46RE tranny. Have plans for other items too just haven't decided on what yet?!?! I don't pickup the Jeep until Halloween weekend due to schedule conflicts but as soon as I have it home I'll post pictures of it. I'm just going to go pick it up and trailer it home.

Does anyone have a good higher output alt? Might as well upgrade it since I need to replace it.
Well guys I ended up not getting this rig because the owner turn out to be a flake out on the deal. I had asked him if he would hold the Jeep until I could get over to pick it up. He said yes. Part of the deal was that he was going to get the previous owner to contact me so that we could get the title issue worked out. So that never happened plus he put a new ad up on Craigslist and sold it.
O'well not a big deal. Back to searching for a rig again. Kept looking and was ready to stop and wait until after the new year when I came across a 1989 Jeep Comanche pickup.

So the truck was on one of those little used car lots about 2 hours from me. So I called the dealership to ask some questions about it and found out that someone was already trying to buy it and had a deposit on it. Bummer........
So I asked the sales guy I was talking with to call me if the deal fell thru. Waited a week and hadn't heard anything so I called back and found out the deal had fell thru the night before. So I told them I would drive over in a couple days and take a look at it. So I drive over to look at the truck and at my house it is clear skies and but when I get to the car lot it is pouring down rain like you're standing in front of a fire hose. So I check out the truck as good as I can and take it for a test drive. Get back to the lot and I give them a deposit and make agreement that I would be back on 1 Dec to pickup the truck. So come 1 Dec I head over with my trailer as I didn't have anyone to drive me over so that I could drive the truck home. So I get there and load the truck up and head home with my new toy.
So it started out that my daughter didn't like the truck and said she would rather ride the bus than drive a Jeep truck. Well as soon as I got home with it she changed her tune. She now likes the truck and it has become HER TRUCK that I can use until she gets her license.

Now I have another money pit for what little money I have.

Tell your daughter you will take cost of repairs/upgrades out of her allowance. (or, her inheritance, whichever seems more fun. )

Nice truck. What's NOT to like???

Well part of the deal with any rig I was to get for her was that she has to help work on it so that she can learn to how things work. I'm going to teach her how to change the oil, do a tune up basic stuff like that. But on top of all that as I fix stuff I'll show her how to figure stuff out. Even if she can't fix it herself she will learn enough so she doesn't get taken advantage of.

SO I hadn't ever posted any pictures of my sons XJ. So here is a posser shot to get you started.

I know what all you guys mean. I have always like the Comanche pickup too and when I saw this one I stopped looking at Cherokees. Now one of the first things to go on this truck is that stupid boner bar on the front. It is not one of favorite things
