Transmission Shifting Problems
I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500, 5.9l, 46re transmission. Recently my tranny went out and not having enough cash for a new one. I went to a salvage yard and pulled one there. I got it installed and it wouldn't up shift past second gear. So I replaced the governor pressure sensor and regulator. Now it will shift, but when it gets warmed up and you are driving, it suddenly acts like you put it in neutral. So I pulled it over, turned off the engine and restarted it. I put it in gear and it takes off like nothing is wrong. The problem is it continues to do this all the time. And I can not figure out what is going on.
Does anyone know what's going on? Thank you in advance.

Need to know what pressures are doing when it drops out of gear. The PCM knows, and if you have a scanner, will tell you, but, will it tell you the TRUTH becomes the big question.
Wonder if your cheap sensors were exactly that......

But I take it from what you have said. That the sensors can drop it out of gear. And it would seem to me that it is basically an electric problem since de-energizing the system and then starting again fixes the problem for a short time.
If the pressure sensor is lying, the PCM may think pressure is good, when in reality, it is not. That will allow things to slip, or simply not engage at all.

I will do that but I've never used my scanner for this type of thing. So I'm on a learning curve. Give me a little time and I for sure will figure it out and get back to you. I definitely need the help. Thanks
