That thought crossed my mind. When I called my machine shop about doing it they quoted me close to $200. Defeats the purpose for me since an airgap would do fine, I just don't want to give them (Hughes) more money.
I've been watching some of them, but apparently not the right ones. Been looking for about a year now.
Well, Got my tax return today so I've been looking at and ordering parts. So far I've ordered these Rockers and this Intake. I didn't realize it wasn't an actual M1 until after I ordered it, but it should work well.
Now i need to go through and see what I've posted for parts so far and update the list.
I also had ordered some new stock replacement head lights from AM auto parts. They were delivered today, but the drivers side headlight was busted. One of the adjusters was broken
, and it wasn't packaged right
. The passenger side was fine, and looks good. These are the lights I ordered. Now we'll see how good their customer service is.
AM auto parts customer service is awesome!!! Sent an email to them the night I got the broken light. They asked if I wanted replacement or refund. I just asked for replacement. Their next email said,
"We won't put you through any more hassle of trying to return the broken set. You can keep it to do as you please. We are shipping out a new set of lights immediately. We will update with tracking information when it is available."
That was on Sunday (valentine's day). I received the email for tracking last night, they had missed being on the truck for delivery by about an hour yesterday, so they should be here today.
Also have most everything for the engine now, just need to start putting it together. I'll get some eye candy up this weekend.
Its friday morning so it is the weekend. Wheres the pix at dude....??????
I was still sleeping when you sent this. Lol.
I've put some on my photobucket account, just waiting until I move them to the right folder so the links don't break. Can't move them on my phone there. I will give a teaser though
So, last night I started test fitting stuff. Didn't get much done, but i did putty the pistons to make sure i had clearance. of course i was getting tired at that point so i forgot to get pictures. Good news is even with the rockers over tightened to the point of coil bind on the springs, and without the head gasket in place, i still had .017" to .025" clearance between the intake valves and pistons. Also had .035 clearance at the quench zone.
To check the clearances I needed to make some solid lifters. For those of you that haven't taken a lifter apart before, here is a break down of one:
Left to right; Lifter body, spring, plunger, rod seat, retaining clip..
Now to make solid lifters with the stock lifters is easy, thankfully.
Making a solid lifter. Leave the spring out, turn the plunger over so the nipple is facing up (or out depending on how you want to word it), Reinstall with the rod seat sitting as normal, then install the clip.
Put back together without the clip. Trying to show installed height.
With the clip installed. That is compressed height with this solid lifter.
Now for a little eye candy I was playing with last night.

Reason: Updating info
Well, I managed to get most of the big stuff bolted on this weekend. It's starting to look like an engine again.
Front View.
New damper with mark at 0. Timing mark run from 0* to 60*, and there are marks every 90* from 0.
Looking at the valley. One head is bolted down.
Fel-pro head gasket. Looks pretty.
I was hoping to reuse my stock pushrods, but of course they're too long. I ordered a length checker from summit. It should hopefully be here this week, since it doesn't have to travel too far.
I'm still waiting on word about the intake I bought, hoping I didn't get scammed. We'll see how that goes. If I did, hopefully Paypal will cover it.
