In all reality, you are up and around a LOT faster than I expected you would be....... Generally, I think the healing process takes a bit longer??
It's hard to say what is a NORMAL time frame. I was told before surgery that it could take 8-12 weeks before you would get your prosthetic. My prosthetist said I was a head of schedule but was healing great. Right now the big worry is that I will hurt something and that will set me back a month or more. I have to be careful not to strain the muscles inside my leg because when they amputated the leg they took some of the muscle and folded it over to pad the bottom of the stump. If I put to much weight on my leg too soon I could rip them apart so I am suppose to take it easy right now.
From talking with other amputees some didn't get their prosthetic for 8-12 months after their amputation. Some had infections and others had to have revision surgery because something wasn't correct. I've healed way faster than I thought I would partly because I am diabetic which can slow the healing process.
It feels great to be able to walk on two legs again. You really never know how much you miss something until it isn't there.

Yep. Couple decades back, I gave up walking altogether due to a back injury..... That REALLY sucked...... moving at all was extremely painful...... so, I didn't....... unless I absolutely had to. Going to the bathroom was an exercise in agony. Docs wanted to do surgery. I said no, give me physical therapy instead...... It worked.

I have an inversion table that I use 1-2 times a week to avoid getting that bad...
It’s made a huge difference in my comfort level.

I had considered gravity boots, but, I could see myself getting stuck upside down until someone came home........ The table actually sounds like an interesting idea.

That's impressive Rick. I'm glad everything seems to be healing ahead of schedule. Keep it up

Well I got the call from the VA earlier today and am going to be admitted into the Rehabilitation Clinic on 7/11/18 . I'll be down there for 2-3 weeks and will be doing physical therapy, recreational therapy and occupational therapy each day. I'm glad they were able to get me in and am looking forward to learning about how to care for my leg and how to do daily tasks. I'm not looking forward to the more regimented schedule and of course will miss everyone while I'm there.

But overall I know it's the best choice for now.

Yup, we’ll be here (holding down the fort)...
Make the most of your time on this one... you’ll be glad you did in the long run.
