Default 2nd Gen at the wrecker

Anyone else having trouble finding 2nd Gen’s at the wrecker?
Nobody seems to have them around me... “they’re too old”.
Thing is, I still see plenty on the road.

I’m looking for donor parts for a heater box rebuild, and I’m after a 5.2 block for a stroker build.

5.2's are still available around here, they just aren't in the truck anymore.

I don't see many at the yards either. Nothing really lasts long in the yards any more. They get sold off for scrap.

I tend to find what I need at the jyards here. But you have to find the ones that specialize in the older stuff, there are jyards that have nothing more than a few years old. 3rd gens are getting more plentiful, I've seen a couple hemis sitting in there. Tempted to grab one for a muscle car build...

Scrap prices are down, so not sure why they are crushing - unless the demand is so low that they need the real estate for stuff that is in demand.

If you find you need something that makes sense to pull and ship, don't be shy about asking.

Junk yards in my area only have a few 2nd gens if any, and the ones they do have have been picked over for absolutely everything. Just a wrecked or rusty metal shell.

There are still some in my area too. I was able to find what i was looking for the past couple years now. The local LKQs allow you to set up alerts on their website so when one comes in you get an email. Got an email last week for a 2000 and an email yest for a 2001. Might go down and take a look. There are also those non self service salvage yards that will pull and stock parts but you pay a bit more there than the ones you pick and pull your part.
