Default What transmission do I have?

So I have a 2000 dodge ram 2500 diesel. It has 248k on the truck and the guy I bought it from said he had the transmission rebuilt and "built" while he had it. I just drop the transmission pan to change the fluid and filter and notice on the side some numbers where the pan meets the transmission. Just wondering if this is the stock transmission for the truck or a different one he put in it? The number read - 10 PK52119831AA 2849 1987. Can anyone tell me if this is the same transmission that came with the truck. Thanks!

Hhhmmmm..... Those numbers are coming up as a three speed trans???? I really don't think that's correct. You should have the 48RE four speed auto in there.

I have watched a few YouTube videos and the valve body and internals looks just like a 47RE & 48RE. And I do know it shifts up 3 times before OD so it is a four speed in it. Didn't know if they could have got a different transmission shell off something else or just put a different one in it. I'm trying to fix a shift problem I have right now with pulling it out, but if it doesn't fix it, I'm going to pull it and take it to the shop.

I also have a 2000 2500 Cummings Turbo Diesel 4x4 with 175,000 miles. The transmission has been out several times because it will not stay in overdrive. It will rapidly shift back and forth from overdrive to 3rd gear and back, then back again until I tale the OD off. Having to pull a loaded trailer up and down the road in 3rd gear runs rpm too high and limits my top speed. I was told by the shop that I have a 47RE transmission. The parts house says I have a 46RE?? Is there a modification to fix this problem with the overdrive? The rest of the tranny function is fine.
Thanks for any advice

You have a 47RE, the 46 won't bolt to the diesel. (and never came behind it either.)

How much of an RPM drop are you seeing when it shifts out of O/D?

Default 47re

Appreciate the response. The Transmission shifts very quickly from OD to 3rd to OD and back again. The shift is so short that it barely drops 100 RPMs. Is this is a defective sensor for OD pressure maybe? This is the only thing I don't like about this truck. Dodge should have put a Allison caliber tranny behind the Cummings! I'll bet there are a lot of trucks like mine with transmission troubles. Mines been out 4 times in 75,000 miles and it's doing the exact same thing again. This time instead of throwing a rebuild stock one at it this time I'm going to see if there is a kit to beef this one up that doesn't cost more than the truck!

The Allison is about the same strength as the 47RE. Any upgrades to the truck engine wise? Before I gasser swapped my Cummins the transmission had 230K on it and I tried to blow it up and it wouldn't.

Red face 47re

Thanks for the response MoparFanatic21, No the truck is completely stock. No mods what so ever. I was just hoping there is a rebuild kit to correct the OD problem. The truck is not nearly strong feeling as it was a few miles back.
Thanks
