Default P1740 code

Just bought a 2001 1500 5.9 with 65k miles, I had a code pop up right after I started the truck an it was p1740 but I figured it was bc I let off the key right before it started an turned it again, cleared it, 2 days later I serviced everything fluid wise including trans, today I got the same code again an now that I'm paying attention. I think its not engaging seems to be running a little higher rpms then it should any ideas, its torque converter clutch selinoid code, truck is shifting fine, no slipping either, it is going into overdrive as well

Get the truck to about 45mph and you should see a small decrease in RPMs. If you do it's locking up the converter

Any way you diagnose if the torque converter clutch selinoid is bad or somthing else causing it??

You need to see if you have a small RPM drop at about 45mph. It could just be the selenoid needs replacing or the wiring is bad

is this the only way to test it? At 50 55 it drops but I'm still at 1700ish rpms accrording to others i should be around 1500

Yep unless you have a high end scan tool that can see when it activates it

You could try disabling overdrive, then find someplace you can drive 45 mph for a few miles, watch the tach, and pay attention to shifts, you will on feel two shifts, then tcc should engage. You should be able to see the RPM drop. To test if it is actually working as advertised, step on the brake lightly, without taking your foot of the gas, and you should see the rpms jump a bit. let go of the brake, and they should drop.

On my 96, I would get codes for tcc, and o/d solenoid performance every three or four months..... clear the codes, and they would stay gone for a while. Truck drove fine.
