Default what else should I do when changing transmission fluid and filter

My 95 5.2 2wd is due for a transmission fluid and filter change. Truck has 115,000 miles on it, electric overdrive. Any sensors or electrical components i should do while I have the pan dropped?

Nope. Adjust the bands while you are in there, and you are good.

Put some rare earth magnets in the bottom of the pan. They will attract the metallic debris and keep it out of the filter.

Now thats an idea....how have I never thought of that all the times I've worked on transmissions ill never know.

Isnt there a sensor and switch or 2 thats internal that often goes out? Thinking about going ahead and replacing them while the pan is dropped

I’m also getting ready to drop the pan on my transmission as it’s leaking. Truck has 101000 miles on it. I have had it since 68000 and only changed the fluid and filter. The trans is shifting good now should I adjust the bands while the pan is off? Or is it one of those things if it’s not broken don’t fix it?

I think it is supposed to be maintenance every 30 or 60K miles, so, while you are in there, go for it.

I just picked up my filter, hopefully get around to it tomorrow. I decided not to change the sensor, because, well it's working, I think. I'm the 3rd owner of this beast, and overall she runs good. Every now and then when I have the cruise set on 70 for an extended period of time (2 hours into a trip), it kicks out of o/d and the check engine light comes on. It does it for about 10 minutes, then goes back to normal. Hopefully I'll learn more when I drop the pan.

Only major issue I've had is not finding a belt that will fit the motor, the longest one autozone had was 1/2" at least too short. But that's another thread.

Got it changed this morning. Adjusted the back band while I had the pan dropped. Took 5.5 quarts I believe to get it back to normal fill.

Remember, the bolts holding the filter are torx, don't do like I did and think it was nut. Spent 30 minutes looking for a small wrench, then the light bulb clicked.

Also, 72in/lb equals out to 6ft/lb.
