nearly a year later and my 95 5.2 ram still gets me from A to B reliably. When out and about yesterday and actually in general I still see alot of 2nd gen rams, mostly extended cab 98+ models judging from their extended cabs actually having a door, on the earlier obd1 extended cab rams the back cab didn't open at all if I remember correctly from what I've read, it was just solid part of the cab itself... but some single cabs like mine every once in awhile too, still some 2nd gen diesels running around town too along with the gassers. All I've done is an oil and filter change and tuneup and 4 used tires and some wiper fluid and coolant to it. The brittle cheap plastic in the dashes does suck honestly though, this morning when I opened my door the bottom whole piece of the dash fell off under the steering wheel, plastic totally broke from being brittle around the bolt holes so no way to put it back, now I just have the wires exposed lol.

I plan on keeping it until it blows up one day then maybe nabbing a decent used motor/trans to stick in it, I drive so few miles per year hopefully this thing lasts me awhile more, approx ~224,886 miles on it. I have honestly thought of putting a more humble magnaflow muffler on it, the cherry bomb extreme dual exhaust I got I can't help but feel it's too loud if that makes sense, I've heard some decent more quiet mufflers on youtube that still sound decent when giving it gas but have a deeper more humble rumble at idle...the cherry bomb extreme isn't far off from just having a straight pipe honestly. Maybe a super 44 or the Magnaflow 13743 XL muffler.

Maybe it's mostly the in-town driving I do where it never technically gets up to operating temp which means the ecm is running more fuel than normal or it finally needing the map sensor or o2 sensor or pcv valve changed but my mpg isn't so great, the gas in the tank is a little old by now too no doubt, only about 8-9mpg. I'm sure if I correctly pumped up the tire pressure up some that'd help a bit too. Guess I can't complain too much with it still being reliable at its age. Could use the steering box tightened up too. I just honestly never felt like doing too much work on the thing this winter, now that it'll warm up in the spring/summer I'll get around to it. All in all not bad for the 800 I paid for it. I can't stand the cold honestly haha.

I've never lost any oil yet so the plenum isn't blown, I think it's just not getting warmed up, a little tire pressure being off, and old sensors needing replaced honestly, and actually now that I think about it, I remember many saying winter gas always gets worse mpg than normal anyway, so maybe my stuff isn't THAT screwed up lol.

Have thought of getting a coil as backup, dunno the age/wear on mine. I asked my dad and he said he's never had to mess with his on his 98 ram though.

I am a 3rd Generation owner of, in my opinion, the best truck on the planet. Mine is a 1996 Ram 1500 5.2L 318, 2wd, 2 door, crew cab. It has 215,000 miles on it all original. My grandfather bought it new, sold it to my dad, then I bought it. It has been and still is a great truck despite the issues and current issues I am having.

Got over 300,000 out of my 2002 dodge Dakota sport 4.7L. Only changed the rear axle The passenger spindle. Both lower and upper control arms. Idle air control. TPS. Tensions pulley. Alternator(2) “due to my amplifier and speakers” wheel hub barrings. Brake calipers. Brake pads(7) brake rotors(2) driver rear window motor. Passenger front window motor. Flex plate. Water pump. Oil pan and oil pan gasket. All myself. Basically my truck is still new lol

That's awesome, Cameron, but you're truck is technically a 3rd generation with different engine than ours. It may be best to post in that forum for help or whatever. But that's still good mileage on a 4.7. There were some sludge issues in early years but for being a short-lived engine (98-12) it did very well. Congratulations and welcome to the forum!

2004 5.7 with 161324 miles. The interior is falling apart, but I live in the dessert! Engine and powertrain have been virtually trouble free. Oil changes, brake pads and tires. And believe it or not, only 2 batteries. I love this truck and it has never let me down! My daughter and I just changed the engine oil today.

Very good, curlee but your truck is a "3rd Generation" being made between 2002-2009 so you may want to post in that section for more accurate help and info. Very nice you work with your daughter on it. Hopefully she'll be a wise and careful owner of a truck someday too.

And in keeping with the thread, I passed 240,000 last week.
