just a little advice for anyone doing the axle U-joints. Put greasable joints back in. most places dont sell them, but if you look for them you can find them.definitely the best thing I ever did

Are there any special instrucions for after i get the new ujoints? Do I just put everything back together the way it was or does anything special need to be done?

Welcome to DF.

If all the other parts look nice, and aren't broken/sloppy/noisey/badinsomeotherfashion, yep, just put it back together.

I have a simple question to ask,I have the front end of the rig tore apart as I am typing this. I have the axel out U joint removed new seal installed and am ready to put it all back together....... Til I realized ( and am now really HOT) that the wrong U joint was given to me. So now I need a ride to the parts store, AGAIN do I take the axel and the front shaft yoke in with me??? I mean how many different U joints fit a 98 ram 4x4 1500? I checked out the parts store website and the pen listed is too long and the diameter is too small? Any suggestions?

Please and thank you.

Take one of the old joints with you, and make sure the new one matches it.

the trick to the taking out the u-joints is pull the clips and push it out with a old socket and vise

I got my u joints out, but when I went to replace with the new ones they won't fit. I bought the 371 u joint. but the gap between the opening on my shaft is 2 1/8" and the slots where the clips insert on the u joints are 2 1/4". Therefor only allowing me to install one clip. Please help!!! What do I need to do??? This is a 1997 1500 dodge 4 wheel drive. The front axel u joints.

Carefully pull the bearing cups off and make sure one of the needle bearings didn't fall over during installation. It can happen very easily even when you think things went right. I know. Also make sure the cups are on all of the way, the plastic seal on them can sometimes prevent them from going on all of the way. Good luck.
