Just take the bed off. Bare frame, dude. If you want to get that light and still be street legal, you're gonna have to get freaky

when putting the bed back on, do I have to worry about alignment, or does it just fall into placepritty much?
As mentioned in my wt reduction page, an important aspect of wt reduction is the location of the wt being removed. Stock weight distribution on a Ram is not the best. Drivers side on the front end is a fair bit heavier than the passenger side so it has a stronger spring in it. Front to rear of course is not balanced so removal of wt off the rear must be done carefully to not upset the f/r balance too much. The idea is to improve front/rear balance not make it worse..
Bed removal
1)Looks like crap
2)Will reduce traction to the point of being slower on 1/4 mile (even w/slicks).
3)Springs/suspension are set up for a certain weight & distribution. Removing the bed will give dangerous handling characteristics.

Some things i'll mention if they haven't been already..
-Sound deadening in the carpet and/or all of the factory carpet and just put down some cheap vinyl
-Convert your windows to manual if you have power windows. Remove all other related power options (Seats, etc..)
-Convert to manual steering rack
