Yea... so today pretty much sucked...
Yep so I had the truck for the past three days... no problems. I replaced the serpentine belt, cap, rotor, wires etc... truck runs great! and now my dad takes it this morning and... calls me up and says that the truck is making a wierd sound. Well I never heard anything when I drove it, so I told him it is probably the new belt making a whine or something from being brand new, or the new K&N airfilter to replace the stock one (im pretty much sure that no one ever replaced it... I know my dad never did) so..., i was like, it is probably sucking in more air or somethign.. Well i get a call 2 hrs ago telling me my dad is sitting on the side of the road because the truck wont go no where... Truck still runs great in park (my dad wanted to blame it's new found problem on me) rev's fine and everything. Move that lever from P to RND21 and let the fun begin! It doesn't make a sound right away, but it is definately rpm induced. If i tap the gas, it seems to make the noise come out. The sound is hard to describe, but reminds me of older truck when the power steering makes noise when at near full lock. kinda like wawawawawawawawawa (you cant just say it, you kinda have to know it) kinda that noise, but comming from the engine back. I am leaning toward transmission. If you put into Reverse, or Drive or 2 or 1, you get the same result. when you push the gas, the engine dips and then it will semi grab and for like a second it will feel like it is in 4wd because of its binding feeling. The truck does move, but bearly. It definately makes a sound, i would have to guess follow the drivers side door badge straight under the truck and you get the general area. Not to sure what it is, but if you have suggestions, please tell me

I'm not really sure. Could be your tansmission your rearend gears, or your driveshaft...
I'm sure peopel with more experince can help you. Sorry to hear about your truck. I'm sure we'll get if figured out for you.

Thanks for the confidence boost. Its definately not the rear end. Its comming from near the back of the engine to the t-case. I dont think it is the t-case for some reason, which leaves the trans right? Could it just be as simple as the pump making the whining/ The truck has no power if you push on the pedel in any motion gear, just dips and grabs and binds... I dont want to hurt it anymroe than I have too...
I'm betting on the torque converter also, the tc in my 99 grand prix went out last summer & took the entire trans with it. It would barely move itself along, making all kinds of noise on the way.

Thanks Fullfog, I just read through and it seems to me that infact it may be the torque converter... well i hope so because it is cheaper than a transmission. In your txt doc, it seems to be the...
* Stator clutch breakage: A very abrupt application of power can cause shock loading to the stator clutch, resulting in breakage. When this occurs, the stator will freely counter-rotate the pump (probably the rattle I hear in all gears, more pronounced in all gears except park) and almost no power transmission will take place. In an automobile, the effect is similar to a severe case of transmission slippage and the vehicle is all but incapable of moving under its own power. (hit the nail on the head for that sentence.)
So i guess a whole new torque converter is looking extremely possible in my future? (monday..haha)
I always hear about those "bullit proof transmissions etc..." but does anyone know of a good torque converter that is cheap?

Unfortunatley even ****ty torque converters aren't cheap.
and while you're already go the thing opened up you might want to think about replacing any parts that can be sustituted with 47RE parts.

I am clueless when it comes to that sort of stuff, but what are the advantages of doing as you suggested? 46RE vs. 47RE ? and I just got a quote from the stealership for a rebuilt TC for 340 - 100 core charge + 790 Labor = Rape
