squeal under hood

RE: squeal under hood
The tensioner and idler pulleys for the 5.9 are like $30 each and teh belt is like another $30, so for a $100 you can swap out everything in like a half hour. I just swapped ou the idler pulley in like 15 minutes and it ended up being the belt, that takes 5 minutes.
If money is tight, then try replacing the belt first. See if the belt has shiny spots on the ribs or cracks, normal wear stuff. If that doesn't help. try to isolate a pulley and replace that first, if it wasn't that one return it and tyr the other pulley.
Good luck.

it shouldnt be dancing around like that it should keep it tight. if its bouncing back and forth then thats where you slipping is coming from and the squealing. my a/c makes noise too when its on and im just sitting at a light but when i put it in nuetral it goes away. its wierd.

RE: squeal under hood
It's kind of funny, I have a squeal under the hood now. Its only when I am in Drive, Neutral or Reverse? I replaced the belt tensioner and belt already, that helped for a day. The idler pulley is 2 years old, I plan on picking one of those up tonight.
When the squeal first appeared, it sounded like it came from the front of the motor, but its hard to keep it in drive and poke around under th ehood when its only me.
Any idea of what else it could be, water pump, maybe?
