Default Stalling. Help!!

1996 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9L
No idea what is going on.
When it starts it revs up like normal but fall back to zero then back up and then falls and then levels out.

Also it seems to have low power all of a sudden.

also after I let off the gas the rpm drop farther and faster than they should

and worst is that some times when costing it stalls and well all know that sucks.

any help/advise???

welcome to DF...

I'd start with the IAC, probably is sticking and could use a cleaning or just replace it. your best bet is to yank off the TB, clean it up real good, clean the IAC and the area around it (small air bleed hole in there) and go from there. I'd assume you have a good tune on it... cap/rotor/plugs etc...

well to be honest after thinking about it I have no idea what the IAC is, it just seems like we were talking about the samething.

but, Cleaned the TB up still didn't work right, but a bit better.
Then replaced the throttle position sensor and it seems better.

I guess I'll find out later.

the IAC is the device mounted to the back side of the throttle body... it has a valve that moves in & out to control the idle. they tend to stick and eventually die over the course of it's life. at the end of the valve is a hole where the valve seats, this area can get gunked up as well as the small air hole I mentioned.

also the manual is linked in the threads at the top (forget which one it is in) so you can download it and use it for reference.
