Where does it seem to come from? In front of you?Behind you? Under you? My guess would just be a loose exhaust hanger or something and when you accelerate it just moves and hits the nearest piece of metal.

I could be completely wrong but thats my guess with the info you gave us.

I was going to say that but he said it doesn't happen all the time and it isn't to a rhythm either.

That *restore* stuff won't clean out carbon. Go to the parts store and buy some combustion chamber cleaner/conditioner. and spray it down your intake while the engine is running. It works best if the engine is hot. Let it sit for a few hours then go for a blast down the highway. It's gonna smoke big time out the exhaust when you do this BTW.
You could also have a blown plenum gasket. Lots of posts here on checking it PROPERLY!

It very well could be spark knock! You may have got some bad gas. Try a tank full of premium, and see if it still knocks. I agree with the combustion chamber cleaner idea. I also like "Restore" but it will not cure your problem.

could be piston slap, sometimes at higher rpm the engine will lose timeing a bit and cause this and it can be inconsistent, either that or your got alifter ready to collapse soon like what mine did, but i got lots of problems in the nature of engine noises lol
