Do I have posi, this sh*t is confusing
Heres the facts. My truck has the sticker under hood, and I have the build sheet and it says that there is no posi from the factory. Ok, so that means if there is one either the dealer or a previous owner had to put it in. The only reason Im confused is because I seem to get posi at some times, but not at others. If I do a burnout, no posi....but in the rain, or on dirt I get posi. I was flooring it on some dirt yesterday and it left two tracks rather than one... What I think issomeone put a unit in there after the factory, and the clutches are shot? What do you think? (I dont have spare funds to crack open the dif and refill it right now)

Lift up the rear end so both tires are off the ground. Turn on wheel one direction. If the other wheel turns in the same direction you do have a posi. If the wheel turns the opostie way you dont.

It sounds like you don't have it.
I'm willing to bet in those other situations (snow, rain) you were just catching traction in some places more than others. Just cause you have an open diferential doesn't mean it can't ever get traction to both wheels.

Well when I had my trans am I had a posi and the cluches were shot one would always spin when taking off. When i lifted it up it would turn together. I had to put a full locker in it. An open diff can spin both if there is equal tracting or lack of traction on both sides are equal. You could also pull the fill plug out and shine a flash light and see if you can see the insides.

my truck will breakbothtires loose about 1/3 the time, usually on surfaces other than dry pavement. and i have an open diff...then sometimes they'll both be spinning, and the dr side tire will catch traction & throw the whole truck in the other direction (not so safe).
a powertrax locker for the rear is going to be my next mod, should have been my first. i had one in my old dakota & it was so much more predictable on road and off road than before the install.
