Default Miss/Hesitation In My 2000 Dodge Ram

Hi Guys,

I have a 2000 Ram 1500 with the 360 V8. I have a funny miss and hesitationwhen cold only between 20 and 30 MPH once the truck is warmed up it is fine.I have changed the plugs, cleaned and re-oiled the air filter and replaced the cap and rotor. It just seems odd that it does it between 20-30 mph. What do you guys think?

Also, there are no fault codes.

Thanks
Dave

welcome to DF...

could be an issue in the tranny causing it....it is possible that your coolant temp sensor may have an issue at a certain tempwhich is telling the tranny it's colder than it really is (sensor opening upas it passes a certain temp). the motor doesnt care what speed the truck is going. you can test it easily by putting an ohm meter on it and firing it up from cold... the voltage off it should slowly ramp up or down (not sure which) as the coolant temp increases. you can also try yanking the coolant temp sensor connectorwhile it warms up and see if the problem repeats, the pcm will think it is still cold and richen the mixture some.

That'd be my first thought, since it is speed (not RPM) specific.Check for high/low alternator output or AC voltage above .5V at the alternator, and also for bad grounds. Any of those electrical issues will cause RE/RFE tranny's to go ape$h*t, but will not set hard faults.

Hey guys I have figured out that it's the coolant temp sensor. Can someone tell me "exactly" where it it? A picture would help. I'm sure it's down near the thermostat housing but before I take the alt. off to fix it I wanted to make it's down there. Or maybe I don't need to remove the alt. My thermostat housing is down where I can hardly see it behind the alt. Again I have a 2000 Ram 1500 with the 360 engine. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The temp sensor for the computer is on the driver side of the stat housing.
The one on the pass. side of the stat housing is for the gauge.

How do you know it's the CTS if you haven't even found it to test?

Two local mechanics said that it's a common problem and that's what they replaced to fix the problem. As soon as they started the truck and drove it they knew what it was. Thanks
