Where do I go from here?
Hello all, I just got back from the mechanic because of bad mileage and misfires at 4, 5 and 6 and the diagnosis goes like this:
Compression test: found all cylinders bet. 140 & 150 except #5 had dry test of 75 & wet of 105 (exhaust valve). #4 was dry 80 & wet 125 (rings & valve). also perform leak down test & found 80% leakage @ #4 82% @ #5 cylinder. engine replacement reccomended (145000 miles)
so what the next step for me? thanks

the bus pass was the cheapest choice, hehe. the 408 is the most expensive but most tempting. but the rebuilt engine is probably the way to go.
one question is, will i get by with just putting in a new valvetrain assembly?

Short answer NO...
If you have a compression loss due to worn/broken piston rings as your test shows.
It ain't gonna help.
Sorry
I'd recommend a wrecking yard motor with good compression all around. I've gone this way many times with different cars and it's always worked out great. Put the added bux into the next motor to make it solid for years to come... new timing chain, fix plenum etc...

i see a 408 stroker in your future
