Default Engine Temp. Problem Fixed! Now about Hughes Air Gap!!

ok i just put on the hughes air gap on my truck and i put a 180 degree thermostat in it and it heated wayyyyyy up, it peged the needle. so i though it was just the thermostat, so i changed it again, the same thing happend. so i took it out the and ran with no thermostat in it then it ran fine but would heat up just a tad over 180. so i thought it was the water pump, so i put a rebuilt one in it and then a new thermostat again. and now its doin the same damn thing. so please tell me whats wrong i give up?????

thanks in advance

Did you burp it when you refilled the cooling system? It sounds like you might have some air trapped in the system.Remember to move the temp setting control to full heat - so that you get coolant flowing through your heater core and push out any air that might be trapped.

Good luck,
Cartman

Actually, the fluid circulates through the heater core whether or not the heat it on.

I have seen one trick where you drill a very small (1/32) hole in the thermostat to bleed air that gets trapped into the radiator.

heck just drill a 1/8" hole in the housing brace that connects the t stat plunger to the mounting ring. And test the tstat by boiling it in a pot of water,it should pop open before boiling if it's working right. You can put in a food thermometer to check for accuracy if you want to know if it's close.

omg i finally figured it out. ok when i took the water temp. sensor i broke it, so i got a new one from Carquest. so i put it in and it read hot. i took a infrared temp. gun to the manifold and it said that it was only around 160, and my guage said 260. so i bought another sender and then it read around 160. omg that pissed me off abit, that it was just that but im also glad it wasnt anything major. lol so yeah that problems fixed

Good to hear you found the problem.

When you have developed a feel for the Air Gap manifold
please post your observations.

right on, glad to hear it's fixed... however how about some pics of the manifold install and some feedback on how it runs?
