Good road tire
Hey all,
I'm looking for a solid road tire with good mileage wear and traction in the rain. 265x75x16's. I've run the stock Michelins and got 27,500mi out of them. Also run 2 different sets of Pathfinders and will never run those again. 60K warranty and gotten less than30K out of both sets. Waste of money.
I've heard good things about the BFG Long Trail T/A's as far as wear, but bad as far as water grip. It doesn't rain a ton down here in Texas, but when it does, we usually get flash flooding conditions.
Also, anybody know where I can find rolling resistance ratings for tires? This is a secondary concern, but might break a tie for me if I have one.

Longest lasting highway tires are Michelin LTX and Firestone Steeltex. The Michelins are spendy, and unfortunately, the Steeltex has been discontinued. There are a few for sale on Craigslist, etc.
If you want to be able to move in the snow or have decent off-road traction, the Goodyear Wrangler Silentarmor is the way to go. Silentarmors will last 60k miles or more if you keep them inflated and rotate every 3-5k. They're are also the best looking of the three. You can get your size in a P-metric, C-load range (6-ply) or in the pro-grade E's (10-ply). If your truck is a 1/2 ton, I'd suggest the C's. 3/4 or 1 ton, go with the pro-grades.
Edit:
Sorry, man, didn't realize your Ram was 4x2 and you live in Texas. Everything here in COis 4x4 (except those with Texas and California plates
) and snow is alwyas a concern. The Silentarmors are still a great tire for 2wd trucks, just might be more than you need.

the bridgestone dueler at revos have a 50,000 mile warranty on them and will last longer then them and look very aggreasive for what they are. the firestone destination AT is also a nice tire at 40,000 miles. If you want a tire that will last longer and has a highway terrian type thread look at the dueler alenza's, they are great tires with a 65,000 mile warranty. The firestone transforce ht and or AT took over the steeltex line, and will last forever. I've seen people get 90,000 miles out of the destination ATas longyou take good care of them and keep your truck aligned.
I second the bridgestone dueler AT revos, we run the load range E tires on all of the Dodges that we have in the county fleet that I work for and they are GREAT.They hold up to all kinds of abuse, we use them in law enforcement and Search and Rescue, and I run them on my 98 Ram with no problems.

My brother runs 265/75/16's on his F-350. He uses Pirelli Scorpions. It is just a phenomonal tire to say the least. It's got a very attractive tread to begin with. It has awesome handeling, it channels water out amazingly, does great in the snow, and even provides promising grip on ice. It will stun you how great it does when it hydroplanes too, on the highway, it is absolutely butter, no matter how hard the rain is coming down. The other day, it even held its own in some pretty darn thick mud as well! It also has a very strong sidewall that is adequate for maximum loads.

right now i have pirelli scorpion atr tires and they are excellent!
not trying to start something but those goodyear silentarmors were ****
Also, if yours were Wranglers, did you select the proper load range? Putting P-metrics or C's on a 3/4 ton, especially if you tow, is gonna accelerate wear a great deal. I wish these things had been around when I was looking for tires on my Powerwagons.
I'm not a Goodyear ***** and, in fact, none of my vehicles sport Goodyear tires (Dunlop, Cooper, Firestone, Falken, and others), but I am a fan of the WSL's.

I also heard some terrible reviews on the Silent Armors. They were a tire I was considering getting, but a lot of tire shops discouraged me from getting them. Like I said, the Pirelli Scorpion ATR is something else. It definitely leads its class in that size range. I think you'd be very happy with it, its done nothing but great things for my brothers 350. It has a sexy sidewall with the white lettering, and the tread looks AWESOME.
Well I was doing some reading on tirerack.com and their take on rolling resistance is that it often results from a thinner or cheaper tire, so I'm not real sure how worried about that I am at this point.
I'll need to do some research on the pirellisand theduelers.I'm afraid to admit I havethe tread complex too,if it looks like it could be on a car, import SUV, or a little 1/4 ton, I don't even want it as a spare.
