are headers worth it?
i took my edelbrock headers in for scrap money b/c thats all they are worth
picked up some gibson SS with the 1 1/2 primaries.. i liked them alot better then the eddy 1 5/8 primaries... way better bottom end.. and seemed to give the sound a bit more throat and gurgle

From what I read it depends. On the magnum motors - absolutely. If you have a hemi - not so much. Kenny Bell had a write up on the magnums. They said it was one of few "modern" engines where the stock exhaust manifold absolutely suck. Most modern designs flow well enough that headers dont make a big difference. However, if you are driving a 5.2 or a 5.9L magnum they said the money was well worth it. I cant remember the increases they said were possible. Since they have dropped blowers for these old motors they dropped the research info - but I remember reading it.

That's what is usually advertise. I've also heard they last a lot longer! When they are painted they are more prone to rusting. Keep in mind, stock manifolds are made of cast iron, so they are very durable! Headers are usually a lot weaker actually, but if you get the ceramic coated or stainless steel finishes, they are going to last a lot longer, keep it cooler down there, keep everything else cooler down there, and they look great too, ya cant beat that! I would never buy headers if they werent ceramic coated or stainless steel. Otherwise I'd just leave the stock manifolds on to keep from having any issues!

oh and forgot if you go to stage8.com or google them you can get locking headerbolts for 50 bucks, i got them and im really happy. No loose headers and no powerloss
dont think for a second that the "ceramic coated headers" are rust proof or resistant either.. ill tell you for damn sure that after TWO... yea.. TWO sets of"vic'swonderfull coated headers" rusted on me.. each set showed signs of spot rust within months.. unacceptable... regardless of what anyone says.. even the techs for eddy said that shouldnt have happend.. thats why they were warrented...
my gibson STAINLESS STEELS.. are pretty and blue... rot free.. for over than 2 yrs,, in western ny

i would.. the SS wont be nice and silver for ever.. they will blue over time.. but for damn sure they wont rust.. ill take pics to prove it if i have to.. you spend more money... but after putting headers on my truck THREE times.. i would have spent the money the first time to save the headache
