You realize you can get a bulletproof APS shipped to your door for that much right...? Thats the highest I've heard for a regular rebuild. You got hosed.
Actually, its not. I called a $tealer$hip and they said $2800 all mopar parts and no shift kit. I called 2 other tranny shops in my area and one was $2500 and another was $2600 out the door with **** kit and cooler.
Sure I could order a tranny, have it shipped to my door, but now i need someone to put it in.

I was going to have them add a cooler, but I already have the other cooler between the rad and the AC coils.
Is it worth getting another??

You should check this site out:

http://www.eatmyshifts.com/combo_kits.htm

I would look into buying a good rebuild kit and having them install it. Here's the one I'm looking at getting (about half way down the page):
#K4. Fits Dodge 518 / 618 / 46RE / 46RH / 47RE / 47RH, 1994 - 2002. You get the Alto master rebuild kit with all four sets of RedEagle clutches and all four sets of Kolene steels. It comes with a direct clutch PowerPack with 5 clutches and the #4K Carbon Fiber flex band. This band is 2 1/8 inches wide. Plus a Transgo stage 2 Shift Kit. Transgo Shift Kits instantly reprogram automatic transmissions for high performance and durability. This is the master kit we use in our performance Viper transmissions.
You get the #1HE Alto master rebuild kit with all Red Eagle clutches, direct Power Pack and all Kolene steels, the #4K Carbon Fiber flex band and the #2 Transgo stage 2 Shift Kit. All three for $409.

looks like he has a viper tranny. I'd rather have the shop do it and give me the 1yr warranty. now he might have burnt that tranny up.

Okay, got the truck back this past friday and it was running great. TQ locked up at around 42mph and was tight... no slipping or an issues. took a 50mile round trip, and the same issue was present. the O/D off light came on, a sign of over heating. Brought it back to the transmission shop and he took it for the weekend. While connected to the computer the trans temp was 150*, then drove it and it climbed up to 170* and stayed. stopped the truck and let it idle and the temp never went down. put it in gear and sat still, it climbed slowly up to 190*-200*. shut the truck off, let it cool for 20mins and drove it. the temp would slowly climp up.
end result, bad cooler in the radiator and the external also. He is going to remove the external one, and bypass both and will install a huge cooler, rated to over 18,000 GVW towing. $250 more.
like I said, its the rolling money pit.

I don't know what fluid, the shop added it.
I would suspect ATF4 since its backwards compatible.

I just hope this new cooler does the trick, I am dying here borrowing and bumming rides to work.

Mopar ATF+4 is the only fluid I'd run. It's also what Wanye at APS said he really liked. You can get the Mopar branded stuff at Wal-Mart for like $5 a quart. Same as the dealer only the dealer here wants $11 a quart.

You can't buy ATF +3 anymore. ATF +4 is a replacement for +3. The Mercon or Dexron was designed for Ford and GM vehicles, not the Dodge.
