For those who have done the plenum repair - parts list
By the way, I had to guess that that was the Coolant Temp Sensor. The service manual I have is for an '01, and it shows the CTS down in the water pump or somewhere, but not on the manifold. I can't imagine on mine what else it could be though. The hole size is right, and it sticks right into a coolant resevoir. If i'm mistaken on what this is, maybe you all can correct me, but i'm sure that's what it is.
Did you get The Right Stuff rtv? I use that on my rear ends to make gaskets because when I worked at a shop thats all they would use. They used to highly recommend it to people that asked about it and I can't say I dislike it.
It also dries in a minute or so to where you can put it backtogher quickly. It says put it backtogether within 5 minutes. I don't like having to wait for it to dry to put it back together. This may be why the shop liked it too I don't know.

Got this picture from Steve's DIY so that I could show you all what I mean in case there is any questions.

By the way for those of you who were interested, that is the water pump bypass hose in the lower right corner of the picture (about 4" long). Good idea to replace it while you have stuff apart for the plenum repair.

Okay here is mine. The stock one is a little thicker and shorter. It was a bear to get out, I used a Pipe wrench because I knew I wasn't re-using it. It is 1.25" long the stock is maybe 1/32 smaller but has less threads. I am bad at measuring threads but in the whole half inch of threads there are a total of eight so I guess its (1/4 - 4). It has an inside Diameter of 3/4", outside diameter is 7/8".
Below are some pics. It is the exact same fitting as the one on the water pump
(It is harder than normal to add pictures to this site, I tried)(got it)

In the middle of doing this a family emergency came up, so i don't have time to figure out how to post pics here. I know img code and html, just seems harder to post pics here, maybe someone could pm me some instructions. I know you need more info, all I can say is look at the fitting on the back of your water pump.

hey silver u gotta website for plenum kit ? does that on include intake bolts cause the huhes doesnt and they want another 50$ for em? also those felpros the one that didnt come with the kit will i need them also? and what kinda dicount do we get from the fastman?
Well, need to correct myself. I found something in the service manual that states that there is only one sensor on newer trucks (called an ECT actually, Engine Coolant Temp sensor instead of CTS as I stated earlier). My '99 is this way. On older trucks, there were two, one for the PCM (the ECT sensor) and one for the temp gauge and warning light (a sending unit). The manifold I am modding has two ports like this, so it is that way for at least '97 and older. It has the one I pointed to in the picture, and one to the right of the thermostat housing. So the one on the right would have been for the sensor, and the one on the left would have been for the sending unit. Since i'm going to stay with the single ECT that my PCM needs, I just picked up a little plug for that other hole. I also picked up the heater inlet nipple that I needed thanks to your pictures nolazach, thanks!
Hope this clears it up for you all. I'm starting to see some of the difference between this '97 intake and my '99. One other difference is that on the driver side of the intake, mine only has one vacuum port for the brake booster. The driver side of this '97 intake has two vacuum ports. I bought a little vacuum port cover to solve that little issue too. Hope there are not any other differences that I am not seeing yet.

Yes, you still need to buy the side gaskets for the intake manifold. The APS kit I got only had the two small rubber gaskets for each end of the intake manifold, and the plenum gasket. It did come with bolts for both the plenum plate and the intake manifold.
