Default Are Hypertechs safe?

Are the Hypertech programmers safe to use? I ordered a used one. Anyway, I've read a few people claiming that it killed their truck and that they had to end up going to the dealer to get a new PCM which cost them 8 or 900$. I don't want anything like this to happen. Is it safe to use or should I just resell it to avoid taking the chance? Some complaints were of when flashing it and some were when trying to put it back to stock.

i think the product itself is safe enough, however, the instructions say that once it starts updating the pcm, you must NOT interrupt the process. i've got one, and i've programmed, and unprogrammed my pcm several times with no problem.

the only risky part about buying one used is the possiblility that the prev owner did not unprogram their truck, leaving the hypertech in a "vin locked" (unusable) condition. you'll only know for sure once you get it and try it.

the only bad (i guess) thing about the ht for me was that it exposed my leaky plenum with severe pinging.

They are safe to use,
You can interrupt, just don't
The thing you have to make sure of is, you need to know that the version on the H/tech is newer than the flash in the PCM, if not the H/tech you have is useless.

I did a thread about this, search 4 it.

if his pcm is stock, then the hypertech will provide an advanced timing curve for a little performance boost. if his pcm programming is not stock, meaning that it contained a mopar performance program, or a superchips, or a b&g flash, then he might be losing something. odds of this ? how to know ?

i wouldn't worry about it. even if you did already have something special (unlikely), the hypertech saves the existing program in its memory, and then puts the hypertech program into the pcm. if/when you ever unprogram your truck, its swaps them back.

Since you already ordered, all you can do now is try it and hope for the best.

I could always resell it. I just don't want to ruin my factory pcm.

I have it installed and like it. Is it worth the $400? Probably not but I think it's worth what I payed for it. It's nice to have a correct speedo and it seems to have maybe helped with the power a little but not a super huge difference.

My question now is if I take it in for work and they unplug the battery to reset the computer will the hypertech program remain on there or will it have the factory settings again and my programmer then be worthless? Thanks.
