Why are intakes so expensive on these trucks? You flip through a Jegs or Summit catalog, and you see intakes out the wazoo for small block chevys and others, and the prices are much more reasonable.

I'm cutting into mine tommorow. I had put it off while waiting on parts to come in and the intake to be cleaned. I plan on cutting it tommorow and putting it in this weekend.

I have a Plenum Kit, Timing chain and gears, water pump, tensioner, throttle body (50mm), oil pump, cap, wires, plugs, rotor, o-rings and gaskets to put on. Plus window tint, a night vision back-up camera and a new satellite radio mount. Should be a fun weekend.

Thanks for the diys. I may try your intake, but for now I want to leave that stock and change it later. I had a bad plenum leak, so I think I should feel a big difference with all this work.

I sort of wished I had done the timing chain while I was in there, and a new water pump (preventative maintenance). I was trying to keep costs down though. Good luck. You can pm me if you have any questions, but sounds like you got it covered.

Please post about the camera install and other stuff too, i'm curious to see how that works.

xskylinedx or cereal, did either of you notice any mpg changes with your modded keggers?
First off I just wanna say 'Thank You' . I'm not so good with words and I couldn't seem to get the point across that they had good mod ideas but it wasn't where I was at. With respect to gas milage I honestly don't look at MPG too much during the winter season. Being in Vermont with the cold weather warmups and waiting in traffic cause some flat lander went off the road it screws up my numbers. I will say that even with the warm upsand the semi heavy foot I'm getting around 13 mpg.

how many on here think an intake is a cai? theres the answer. Not enough demand. sbc has been arround since the late 50s and has been used on almost every application gm had from then until the 90s. One of the best selling motor familysof all time, if not THE best. The interchangablility of sbc parts also makes them outsell things like our magnum intakes.

you also have to take the law of supply and demand into account. There has only been one aftermarket intake on the scene for the LONGEST time (the new air gap is still 700ish so it still is a little out of the question for the equasion) When supply is down, price is up. If there were say, 20 diffrent intakes for the magnum, you can bet your buttons that they wouldnt be 500-700, more like 200-300. The less of something there is, the more someone is willing to pay (not saying actual quantity available for production is low, but the choice is low/nonexistant) Mopar has a monopoly on intakes, so they can charge whatever they want.
