This has to be the best kegger d.i.y. I've seen on the web. Nice job!
Thanks for taking the time and effort to put this up. Great pics and write up. I hope this gets permanantly into the diy files or a sticky or something.

There is definitely more than one way to cut the runners. Anyone who thinks this way is "wrong" should note that Hughes Engines offers TWO versions of their kegger mod. The difference is in how much they cut the runners. Cutting more off moves the power band up. Shorter runner = more power at higher rpm. Silver_Dodge's job should move the power band up a bit without giving up much, if any bottom end.

With the price of an M1 being what it is, this is a very cost effective mod for many of us. Saving the money on the intake would leave me money toput towardsheads and/or a cam.

BTW, Hughes Engines gets $465 (+$300 core) for their modded kegger. Pretty much the same mod plus the aluminum belly pan. I believe they fill theirs too, to reduce the plenum volume.

That came out really nice. What did you use to keep the paint off the numbers and all?

I was wondering how it would come out painted.

I painted the whole thing and then used a dremel tool with the round sanding head and just barely touched the high spots, i taped off the bolt holes and where the T-stat goes in. I think it turned out pretty good. I will get a picture of it installed this weekend (at school till friday and dont have the truck...).
I really like it and it goes really good with the new valve covers I got, they are the mopar performance covers in matte black with the raised letters etc.
Ill take a few pics this weekend and get them posted on this thread asap.

Did you bore out the injector ports as well? Once I get settled in different phases of my life, my intake is coming back off and I'll be retouching my intake.

Black absorbs light, not heat. Light can be turned into heat thru that absorbtion though. Actually, black is just more suceptible to heat transfer in general, which makes it a great choice for heat transfer application (getting heat in or out). Since there is no light under your hood a black-painted engine runs cooler than a white or polished engine, because it can dump heat faster.

I did bore them out a little bit, you cant really tell from that picture. I took it on my phone and sometimes it doesnt take the best pictures....
And as for painting it black: I dont think that it will cause it to run any hotter, and if it does it wont be enough to make any difference.
Those words may come back to haunt me but I guess Ill see what happens. I really like the way it turned out, and I think it looks alot better than just leaving it unpainted.
