Changes about to go down.

I don't really see me buying a $2,000+ transmission right now either. I'm somewhat hoping I can get away with a relatively cheap fix on this transmission, and then milk it as long as I can. Also, I think by lowering the truck back down to size and putting 285s on her this will cause less wear on the transmission, and will eliminate any more damage to the front end due to the mismatched lift on the truck. I'd feel much better bringing the truck back down to size and putting those 285s on her and just waiting till I can afford a true lift kit like the 5'5 Fabtech. That way everything will be matching and it will be done right the first time, instead of trying to part out a half *** liftkit with coil spacers. When I get my truck back, I need to check what gearing it has. If it in fact has 4.56s, that would be awesome, it would mean I wouldn't have to buy them in the future, and would mean I'd have even more torque with smaller sized tires. I highly doubt though that I have 4.56s, I just couldn't imagine the previous owner would spend any kind of extra money like that....just look at the lift that's on the truck. What do you guys think of this final outlook? And, I will buy that plenum kit that you guys have shown me, and install it with myself. I just cannot afford a new transmission right now, so if I can get it repaired, I'm just going to be really easy on it, no more peeling out, just keeping it cool. This way when I get it lowered back down to offroad height, nothing else will be getting further damaged in the front end either, and I'll have a nice smooth and healthy ride with a great flowmaster sound[8D]. Then, later down the road when I can afford some nice 35" tires, and the Fabtech 5'5 Liftkit, and a nice strong new transmission like the fastman, or the dr. evil, then I'll be living up high again. You guys think I'm on the right track with this move? I just don't see any sense in trying to put money into a liftkit that sucks to begin with while I also have a transmission in need. Feeling me on this? And thank you all for putting your 2 cents in with the plenum, and the transmission, and the liftkit stuff, you guys literally save me, so thank you!

"I'm pissed. My **** won't move"
Well guys, my **** won't even shift out of park today. I don't get it. I mean I just changed the plenum gasket, soyou'd think it'd be running better.I had to have it towed to a gypsey mechanic who told me he could he could rebuild it for 1,500, but that was 3 days ago and he hasn't called or answered when I call the shop. Do you think I should go down there? I don't get it. The guy who told me to go there said this guy was real good.

Well I got my truck back, but it started slipping on the way home. It's still driveball. I'm driving it back down to the shop tommorrow and demanding that he fixes whatever is still wrong with it.

Well I took my truck back to the shop. The guy said more stuff is wrong with it and it's going to be $750 more. Damn. If I'd have known this was going to happen I'd have just bought a new tranny like you guys said. Sorry guys, I'll just listen to your advice next time since it happened again
Oh well... You do whatever you want. Maybe someday you'll get it.
Cereal, it's not that I'm not hearing you out, but you have to hear it from my view. Obviously I will be getting assistance from my parents with this transmission ordeal. Also, they want to see the lift and tires off the truck because its eating up the front end, and it has an unsafe ride. I can't afford to go full out on both right now. The least I can do for everyones wallet, is take that ****ty lift off and get those dumb nobby tires off and put a smooth treaded tire on there. I'm not buying wheels anytime soon either, so you don't have to add that into the equation. If the the transmission can be fixed for the $500-650 range, I will pay to have it fixed, and then I will take very good care of it. I would bet I could at least get 3/4 a year to a year out of it. Trust me, when your bumming money from somebody, I'd think they'd much rather do this then have to pay $2,400 for a new transmission AND help me get new tires and take that lift off. Money is really tight right now. But like I said, if fixing the transmission exceeds something like $900, then I said I will buy a new transmission. I just have to see if it's something simple, because up until the big trip I took last week, the transmission was just fine. It wasn't the best shape, but it was just fine. So I need to see if it's something simple. Don't worry man, I hear everyone out here, and I'm taking everyone's advice. My gameplan can all change up fast depending what the tranny shop says about my existing transmission. Could be something simple, could be something severe, I'll know today. What I do know though, is the hackjob lift and 35s will be going off this truck as soon as I can. I can't afford a transmission, and front end damage, so even though buying new tires seems expensive, it's actually saving the front end. Trust me, this truck will see lifted days again. I'm in love with the lift concept. Now that I've driven a lifted truck for over 7 months, I have the desire. My truck is still going to look mega badass lowered and with 285s, it's going to still look really proportional and badass, I won't let it look gay. And while I'm being nice on the transmission and the front end is being saved, I'll be saving up for the REAL DEAL. A real lift kit, and some really nice 35" tires. This truck will be lifted again, no doubt about it, I'm just going to waste my money trying to put money into this lift, the fact it has coils spacers sucks right there. When I bring it back down to the offroad height, I'm going to replace the front shocks and coils as well. (pcfixerpro has already called those
). I would guess it's going to take me at least a good year to get that liftkit, and then I could just use my exisiting 35" tires when I first get it. I don't know though, it may be tough for me to try and stayed focused saving over a $1,000...I know I still want a fastman and the volant intake. But, lets just see what the tranny shop has to say. To me, this sounds like the best plan based off what everyone here has said to me about my lift, my transmission, my front end. Sound good?

Have you or your parents ever heard do it right the first time? Spending $900 now and then having to spend the $2400 in a couple of months to do it right. That makes perfect sence to me. Fix the transmission right and then slowly getting your front end put togetherproperly. You don't seem to have a problem driving around town with it and those tires aren't hurting the Tranny.
But over all these guys are getting frustrated with you because you came on here looking for advice and then when you get it you throw it right in their faces and go your own way if your going to go your own way anyway quit asking for good advice just to throw it away.
Sorry I had to vent my opinion 17 pages of good advice thrown away[sm=dontgetit.gif]

I understand where your coming from and I think your right. If the fix is in the 300$ range then do it and safe up for the new tranny. However not to bring you down but I really doubt that your going to get away from a full rebuild.

You don't needto spend 1,500 on a5" fab tech system, you don't go offroad. You explained how stupid you think it is to take your truck offroad much earlier in this post.
Your 35s are not what's eating up the tranny. High miles, and spinning tire is what's eating up the tranny. That's why it's shot. Not cause someone put 35 tires on it.
Also the body lift will be alot better for stability on the highway than a suspension lift because it ONLY LIFTS THE BODY. Your stock suspension will not be effected AT ALL. So you will have the same ride on the highway as you would with the truck bone stock.

Fixing something right is always right.
I think this thread has lasted so long because of this. Kinda like a battle of the wills. Good entertainment. It will be interesting to see who wins! [sm=teetertooter.gif][sm=icon_cheers.gif] [sm=icon_rock.gif] Rock on dudes!

I'm not really sure why everyone thinks I'm not taking their advice, that's not true at all. You guys have to realize that I have hope with this existing transmission. Prior to it suddenly failing, it was in diesent shape. The only time it had issues was when it was moving, go up hills. Those tires ARE the reason why it would jump around going up hills, and you could tell it had taken a beating on the truck over the years. Like I've said time and time again, I'm sure being hard on the transmission with my speeding didn't help, but prior to it being fine for 7 months, and then one morning it just completely not shifting, leads me to believe its something simple. The transmission was always strong out of first, 2nd, and 3rd gear, it was just once it had to sustain a 50mph or so, thats when I would see the transmission to start doing its bobbing because those tires were just a big load for them on backroads, you cannot attest to that. I'm not really sure where the disconnect is here though, I've thorougly listened to everybody here, through the good and bad. And with that, I've come up with the best solution. Many of you say my current lift is rigged, and I would need to part out a lot of friend end parts to make it right....I don't want to do that, can you blame me? Also, getting rid of the 35s isn't just because of the tranny, it's to save my front end. If I get rid of the lift and tires for now, I'll save my front end. For all I know, I may really like having 285s, and might never go back to the big lift and 35s, we'll find out. I just don't see the transmission having anything too serious wrong with it. It's always been relatively strong, and then suddenly one morning, it didn't shift, obviously some kind of seal broke. The tranny was weak, and the only thing causing it to skip around was pulling those 35s around and peeling out with them, period. Again, you can say I haven't listented to what you guys said, but that's all I have been doing. I'm fixing the plenum myself (you guys suggested this). I'm getting rid of the fault liftkit (you guys have told me it's not a complete kit, and have suggessted just doing it over). If it's something simple with the transmission, it will be addressed. Obviously I'm not going to rebuild the transmission if it's something seriouslly wrong with it or if its a lot of money....But, I have a feeling it's something simple due to the fact the transmission never showed signs of immediate failure like hometheaterman describes about his once dying tranny. By getting 285s, this will save my front end, less tax on the transmission (you cannot deny 35" tires are putting stress on a transmission, they are HUGE). People cannot keep saying I'm not listenting to them or that I'm making a bad decision until they hear what I say about the transmission. When I know what's wrong with it, I'm reporting it to you guys ASAP. And by the way, I had my truck pulled out of that transmission shop. They had 3 days to just simply diagnose the problem, and nobody called me once, it was a joke. So my appointment isnt until friday with the new transmission shop, but I'll let you know what they come up with friday. In all though guys, you have to think about what I want at the end of the day to. I'd be a pretty much mindless person if I didn't somewhat have my own gameplan going on inside of my head. I come to you guys for suggesstions, advice, and information, what more can you ask from me? Nobody seems to want to think maybe I don't want to drive my truck around with a half *** lift, and giant tires. Maybe I'll really enjoy my truck when it has smaller sized tires, and a smoother tread, and a structural suspension. I may go the body kit route, but to me, I'd rather just wait to do the real deal. I don't offroad, but I love the look and feel of a big truck, it's in my blood now. You guys can say this is a dead thread, or that I'm not listenting, but many of my decisions are from you guys, and many are my own, so lets stop assuming I'm not taking in what your saying. I'd appreciate it if you all would stop putting the focal point on me personally, I'm not the one who madethis a 17 pager. Most of that came from people coming in here just to **** on me which is stupid. Lets keep this focused on my transmission, and the plans I have about my truck. This is my truck guys, I come up with gameplans, and then I ask you what you guys think about that as you guys all do in your threads. If you dont think I'm asking questions or listenting to what your saying, then you just simply aren't listenting. Thanks.
I dont know if anyone else has mentioned this or not, I didnt read every single post on here lol. But have you checked your sway bar connectors??
They are shown in that one picture a couple pages back, Mine went bad about 6 months ago, both were shot, I might as well not have had the sway bar on at all because both joints were worn to the point you could pull them out with your fingers. I had sway bar connectors go bad on both my dodges and it makes a big difference when you fix them. My orange truck wasnt nearly as bad as the silver one but it still made a noticeable difference.
You may want to check them out since you have the lift and everything on there, and they are extremely easy to replace, it took me about 45 mins per truck...
The parts are kinda expensive tho, I got mine from a dealership and I think they cost about $140.
