Default Transmission Temperatures

I installed a transmission temperature gauge last week and have been closely monitoring the temps. I have the stock auxilliary cooler, which came with the towing package and is really large. The temperatures during the day have been around freezing all week. My gauge sender is installed in the "hot" line coming out of the transmission. During normal driving (not towing or hauling anything), my gauge rarely gets above 100*F or 120*F. When driving on a lot of hills, it might creep up to 130*F or so. I haven't towed anything yet.

What tranny temps are you seeing during driving and towing?

I see around 150 or less when ambient temps are down around freezing or below. I see around 165-180 in the summer time unloaded, and around 210 when i'm towing in the hot summer.

Yes, rated at 32,000 GVW (way bigger then the stock cooler). Also have an oversized pan. I'm taking my reading from the front servo port. I also take a reading from the pan, but it is much lower temps.

I'd get a cooler on there for sure.

Hmmm. When it actually stops snowing, I'm going to have to check the grounds on my sensor.

I think a temp gauge is almost more important then a cooler. What good is a cooler if you don't even know what your temps are. You can still overheat with a cooler.

Definitely get a gauge on your tranny. I pull a 9000 lb fifth wheel with my 1500 and would not even consider pulling without my gauge.
