your last inspection???
Some of yall must have really hard inspections.
Here we have "brake tags", you go to a station, have a guy check your lights, wipers, and make sure you have a cat and nothing darker than 40% tint. The last part keeps the tint companies rich, everyone just gets new tint evbery year right after inspection.
Show Insurance and pay $7 and your out.

My state doesn't have "inspections" or emissions tests.
Pretty much, once a year, prove that the vehicle is registered under your name, that you have insurance, and here ya go, new tags for your license plates. Thats it.

Last year was $600 or $700 roundabout...had both our vehicles down so had to get fixed asap. Sorry to be so vague but also had $800 for my wifes car at same time.
My truck needed both upper and lower ball joints, both front u-joints, front brakes and new rotors.
This year I need to have the brake lines replaced and new muffler. Unlike last year I should be able to repair myself due to no time constraints. Hope thats all!!

[:'(] Wow I would fail inspections all the time.
They check your ball-joints too. I was thinking just emisions. What do they do have a mechanic take your truck and inspect it?? I know you can't pass with a CEL. I can understand checking the front end and all and the brakes, but do they check engine too??
It all makes sense, I just didn't know that they had vehicle inspections in states; like how the FAA requires aviation inspectios. for general aviation.

you guys are lucky, they check underneath for rust holes, all joints, tread on tires ,exaust, all brakes there is soo much more and emmisions. and its just stinks because our truck parts our exspensive, and to get a big bill at one time of stuff that is wearing out or needs replaced.

so if your truck fails, you have to pay them to fix it????
We have property in Texas and Florida and I was thinking of changing registration to get cheaper Insurance, but not if I have to deal with the inspections.
I complain when they told me my 35% tint was too dark, I think I am going to tell our inspection guy how glad I am that I live in this ponduck city that requires its own "brake tag", instead of a state inspection, never realized how lucky I was.

Basically they tear into the truck and start a list of crap that doesn't meet spec. Like lastrights said...they check tire tread, brake pads/shoes for min thickness as well as the drums and rotors. Here in Maine they do pull the wheels off to check.
All ball joints/ujoints/tie rod ends.
Oh yeah, and the simple crap like exhaust, lights, horn directionals etc.
You can't pass with a CEL either.
Thats just a short-short list of what gets looked at here in Maine.
