Hate to do it, but no new Oil Filter threads or updates...
I just started using K&N filter with Royal Purple...so far so good! Don't think I would say I noticed HP increase or whatever lol, that sounds funny to me.
I also added restore when I did my change. I'll let you guys know what I find out.

I use Fram or Puralotor with no problems. And Castrol GTX. But I change oil & filter every 3 months / 3000 miles. It is maybe nice to have oil last 10 of 15000 but i really don't like the idea of oil in my ride that long.

Evenusingan oil that said it could go 10,000-15,000 miles I would still change it every 3,000 for the fact that oil is cheaper than a motor. I started using amsoil in my bike because I only change it once a year, and because I have never read any bad reviews on it and my motorcycle mechanic highly reconmends it for it's wear properties.
I'm thinkin about gettin a bike of my own to combat the gas prices cause I DO NOT WANT TO GET RID OF MY TRUCK!!! lol. So it's cool yall are bringin up the oil for bikes.
I'm confident my fram/castrol gtx with restore will run fine for the time allotment I have for it. There was a sale for the gtx and the fram was 4, so it's only 11 total, then I'll be going with the Napa/Wix filter and Royal Purple (mostly to get that itch out of my system). After I run that for 2-3k, I'll see if I like it enough to do it again, or just go with the Mobil1 Synthetic as a measuring stick.

See, I don't understand this. Why do guys run a synthetic and then change itlike a conventional oil? I thought the whole point in synthetic was that you could go 12,000 miles. By the way, most conventional oils can go 5-7000 miles these days. The old style non detergent oils used to need to be changed at 3000, but they stopped making those years ago.
I plan to go full synthetic on my 2005 Yukon XL and change it every 12,000 miles. I PROMISE not to use a Fram filter OKAY!?
If you are going to change your synthetic oil at 3000 miles, please bottle it up and send it to me so I can put another 9000 on it!
Wait a minute, this smells of **** and Vinegar!

I still change my syntheticaround 3000. Your welcome to pick it up (just changed this weekend). We lost our intrepid due to oil sludge buildup, and don't wish to do the same to my truck. I feel better if I know I have new oil. Just personal preference I guess. Trust me, I don't have extra $$ to **** away, but this is one thing I don't mind. This weekend I was a quart low, and instead of spending 5 dollars to top her back off, I spent 25 to fill her up 2 the brim with new oil and filter. I hear ya tho 1BigRamaniac

I just always changed my oil in my car and truck every 3,000 miles because I used conventional oil for years and just got used to changing it on that schedule. Sometimes I let it run out alittle longer because I forget or get to busy to change the oil, and with synthetic I do not have to worry if I stretch it out.

I've never heard of a syn sludging, but I guess anything's possible if your ran it long enough. The Light duty schedule in my owners manual says you can go 7500 on a change as routine maintenance.

Most conventional oil has anti sludge(detergent)and anti foam agents present. How a modern engine oil could produce sludge is a mystery. Did you see it in the filter? Did the oil pump get plugged? Did you see it when you changed it? Some must have come out. I hear at FORD they put sludge in cause the engines won't run right if they don't.
I changed my oil yesterday and heard a 'clunk' turns out the rubber gasket from the FRAM fell off the filter. I must have had it on too tight. I usually hand tighten, and then give it a quarter turn with the wrench. I put a fram back on.
BTW the according to Dodge, you are supposed to change your oil every 7500 miles. Oil gets dark because it is suspending particles-exactly what it is supposed to do.
