Advancing timing on a 5.9L Ram
I think they did change the plenum gasket, but what you're talking about sounds about right. He said someone recommended some aftermarket shops for reflashing the ecu, but he wasn't sure if that was the only alternative. So you're saying that it CAN be reflashed by the dealer, or that they won't do that? OR, that he should take it to an aftermarket tuner?

TIMING CAN BE CHANGED ON A 5.9 ITS A DISTIBUTOR, 5.9 TEND TO LABOR KNOCK IN THE HEAT ESPECIALLY WHEN USING THE CHEAP GAS TRY USING PREMIUM AND THE LABOR KNOCK WILL STOP, IT HAS BEEN PROVEN IN THE 5.9 THAT PREMIUM FUEL GIVES THE 5.9 1BOUT 10 MORE HORSES DO TO THE HIGH TIMING CURVE, YOU CAN RETARD THE TIMING ABOUT 4 DEGREES AND IT WON'T LABOR KNOCK ANYMORE , BUT IT KINDA RUNS LIKE A DOG AND GET WORSE FUEL MILAGE, AS FOR SOMEONE SAYING YOU CAN'T ADVANCE OR RETARD THE TIMING THEY NEED TO BE SLAPPED, THIS AIN'T NO CARAVAN

I have heard about the "death flash" create a problem to fix one? After market tuner like steve00 said, ask around but I belive certain tuners for certain years. Either buy one or find some one that has one, might let you use it? JMO.
So, I think maybe we're on two different pages. Do you mean an aftermarket tuning shop or a piece of equipment for aftermarket tuning. I was referring to aftermarket "tuners" as in shops that do aftermarket tuning.
Thanks again y'all

Yes after market tuners like hyper-tec, super chips, and you might ask around but a mopar performance pcm might fix it too? Depends on what you are willing too spend too? Haven't used either, getting one after income tax? But I wouldn't go to that same dealer that started the DF. JMO.

16 year old thread, and wrong information as well.... Turning the distributor does not affect ignition timing at all. That is all controlled by the computer. Only way to alter timing is to change the programming.
