suspension noise, time for upgrade? Need more payload.
2001 Ram 1500 4x4. Just under 60k.
Have a bit of a creaking noise up front. Seems to be suspension related. Just had the front end apart to change the U-joints in the axle, and everything seemed in decent shape. Noise has been there since I bought it last year, just didn't care too much. Possible it's the shocks?
Been kicking around ideas for increasing payload as well, so a suspension upgrade is possible. Hate how much it squats when I'm loaded up with drywall or other items for remodeling. Was going to sell it and get a 3/4 ton, but think I'm better off just upgrading mine given the low mileage.

good possibility its control arm bushings if so go with energy suspension (.com) and do your balljoints at the same time i got mine off ebay and they were moog for a good price just cant remember what it was i paid for them and also i been looking for shocks and the best prices i found were on 4wheelparts.com hope this helps..........j
You'd porobably be suprised how bad they are but wouldn't know it untilyou got new. BUt then again your roads might be better than what we've got down here. Too much shifting soil.
Shocks are original. I'll check the bolts first. Heard some radio advertisements for Monroe shocks and they harp on 60k for shocks, so that came to mind first.
get some bilistiens, they cost more but are worth every penny. i love em!

check the ball joints I bet they are dried out and thats why you hear a creaking noise for some reason dodge's are known to eat ball joints.my dakota and avenger both had to be done via a recall.
Just wanted to bump this for more input on your ideas for increasing hte payload, and the tradeoffs to the options. I want 3/4 ton payload basically, without the loss in turning radius. Don't mind if the ride is a bit stiffer, but don't want my wife complaining the d's are bouncing too much. Tips?
Helper springs are supposed to help, and are cheaper than buying new leaf springs. Also might try the Timbren AEON springs. http://www.timbren.com/
