Also should i put a new torque converter in it or not?...i am gona put the deeper pan on it and i have the off-roAD so it has the tranny cooler already....right now i can drive it but it wont shift out of first gear...i can hear the loose band in there making noise so its not like parts are grinding and falling into my pan...i dont want to go with any oem parts or kits so if you guys can give me some ideas i would be grateful!!!!...thanx!!!!

I can say that everyone i've talked to has regretted rebuilding thier factory tranny instead of buying a built one from dr.evil, aps, etc.

(yes i know someone is going to get on here, read this, then tell me how much they love thier rebuild...... don't care.)

I don't care, that you don't care. Lots of us here have had them rebuilt. Mine was rebuilt by a reputible transmission shop and it has been fine. I don't tow much, but I have towed a Pequea C2500 dump trailer from time to time with a small load and its been flawless.

If I had over sized tires, and was going to tow, or load the transmission a lot, then YES get the Dr Evil...aps...etc. if its your daily driver, and weekend warrior truck, then find a local shop that offers a 1-3yr warranty on their work.
Best of luck.

yeah i wont do a lot of towing just mainly daily driver and a hunting truck and my mechanic is giving me a full year warranty so i will try to tow some things in that year to see if it will hold up!....costing me 900.00 for the whole rebuild with a rebuilt torque converter and all new overdrive parts maybe up to 1100.00 but notmore than that so i think i will try it and see!

Wasn't disagreeing about a dr evil, or apsbeing the best option, its just the most expen$ive option.
Yes, lucky me, the Only One to ever have their transmission rebuilt and ihave t still work afterwards. I can't figure out how all these transmission shops survive if they can't rebuild a 518 transmission... they have been rebuilt so many times, i am sure most shops can do them in the dark, upside down, with one hand behind thier backs.

The OD unit is the weakest part of the trans.. With that said , im sure your guy knows what to look for .. shift kit will help alot , plus clutch bands , you can go wild (all heavy duty) ..for 1200 bucks your getting the basic rebuild , hell i spent that on parts alone and i rebuild my trans with a new OD unit , new trans line .(( MAKE SURE YOUR TRANS GUY MAKES SURE YOUR ANTI DRAIN BACK VALVE IS CLEAR OR CLEAN , OR GET NEW . IF CLOGED IT WILL BURN THE TRANS UP))) deep trans pan helps , and full syn trans fluid...

drain back valve, is that the check valve? If so, the place that did mine said it was best to remove or drill it out. Whats the best to do, remove or just replace?
