lucas trans fix- good idea or not?
I found a bottle of Lucas Transmission Fix at walmart. Says it prevents heat, wear, repairs bands and seals, stops leaks, cures hard shifting, prevents slipping. I was wondering if this is a good idea to add to my ATF. Will it have any adverse effects on my transmission? And if i add it, do i pour it down the dipstick tube of the tranny? Should i use all 24 oz at once? Just wanting opinions or experience before i used it. Any transmissions experts chime in
Yup I've always been told not to add any additives to these transmissions. I think Wayne at APS told me not to put any additives in too which I don't. To me with most things if you need an additive you have a bigger problem that needs to be fixed. They seem like to me they do more harm than good.
I had done a search on this and found that some people have had great results, some no change, some not good. So sorry for cluttering up the forum, but i wanted to start a new topic on this too gain new opinions. Any actual tranny technicians have advice or comments? I'm really torn on this. I have heard both good and bad. Leaning towards not risking it right now

i use it at every fluid change. i like it.
but like every product you have your likers and your haters. I have heard differing statements from transmission techs as well.
to each his own.
Ive heard people say bad things about slick 50 engine treatment as well, but ive seen a I6 jeep run 300k miles without a rebuild runnin it.

I believe that Lubegard 'Red Bottle' is worthwhile
especially if the trans is having 'bump shift' as it downshifts to first gear

Lubegard (Universal Lubricants) is a company founded by one of the Mobil engineers who invented Mobil One synthetic oil, and Lubegard got a US Agriculture Dept grant to create Sperm Whale Oil equivalents from plant oil starting points. Sounds crazy, but true.
if you are already using official ATF+4
I would not add anything to it

Yeah but the Jeep I6 is a very reliable engine and will go 300,000 w/o Slick 50. The way I see it, thats a bad analogy???
MonteC, i sincerely apologize. I wanted opinions from professionals and did not realize I was already getting them. I appreciate your advice and will definitely take it into consideration. I have decided to not use this product, but simply have my tranny looked at and possibly rebuilt. Thank you
