Does anyone have any suggestions...recommendations...measurements or ANYTHING on install a Flowmaster Super 44 on a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4?

I will be installing from a stock muffler to the super 44...how much extended pipe will I need? What about having the exhaust exit prior to the rear tire? Any input? Picture? anything?

Please let me know...I plan to do this real soon...already have the muffler...didn't want to pay the $100-150 labor cost...plus its a muffler...how hard could it be?

 

If you have a welder, or a method of cutting the pipe and using clamps, it shouldn't be that hard. But some of us here aren't that lucky.

The muffler my shop used was a FLO-942546. It is approximately 19" in length (overall) from inlet to outlet, with the case itself being 13" long, 4" thick, and 9.75" wide. Its designed for a 2.5" pipe, inlet and outlet.

Let me see if I can dig up any of the old pictures of the setup.

EDIT: Couldn't find the pics, and its night, so I can't take any decent ones right now. Will do so this weekend. I did measure, however, and there is an approximately 18" or so piece of steel pipe they installed after the muffler to my existing exit pipe. The front of the pipe has been welded to the old exhaust pipe in front of it (going to my Magnaflow cat).

I had forgotten just how big that stock muffler was.

Yea I excited...my wife gonna be pissed! My other rig she normally drives is broken so she temporary driving my truck.

Maybe I should fix that one first? Nah hunting season has started and I go up with my buddies next weekend!

My buddy has a diamond pipe cutter and 3 welds....we should be ok.

If you have to have any tube bent... I would recommend having a shop do it. They will bent it correctly using a mandrel bender so that the pipe doesn't kink and it is smooth on the inside.

That might not be the best for hunting season as it is loud. You don't want to scare everything off. I have a buddy that has a Toyota and puts his stock exhaust on for hunting season and runs a loud on the other times. I myself just run the FM 40 all the time.

 

my stock muffler was 38" in length.

 

Yeah, 18" + 19" = 37", and they were approximates, so I bet you my stock muffler was 38" too.

 

I measured 40" on mine..close enough! The muffler noise during hunting...I believe they are use to trucks...plus I'm not road hunting. I pull off and usually walk 2-3 miles in and wait 1 hr before commencing.

Is there a way I put it on without welding for time being? In the end it will be welded but I want to get it on in a hurry...test it and if all good weld or then just take it off. Ideas?

 

just use clamps.
