Not much. Either drill a hole in a specific spot in the PR valve train to connect two passages, or buy the sonnax update valves, they require no drilling.

the pump is shut off in p in the 46's. the trans isnt being used in park. the killer of these transmissions is the valve body, or the overdrive.

The pump doesnt physically shut off. It cant, its directly hooked to the torque converter, it is always pumping, it never stops until you turn off the engine. The pressure regulator valve just dumps the fluid when in park, the valve doesnt allow the pump to build up any pressure. All of the oil just gets diverted back into the pan.

The fix is really easy.

MonteC, is this something I should ask them to do. Ideally, I'd like to avoid any kind of side requests and just have them install the new transmission, and get out of there. But if it's something you believe it's worth asking about, I will do so.

That's why whenever my truck is idling, I have it in N with the e-brake on...

I do the same thing, but it's just pretty excessive at times, especially when people are in the truck that don't know anything about the 46re lol.

The dealership probably wont install them without some kind of BS. I dont know what your skill level is but if you buy the two valves you need i can walk you through it with pictures, i have a few of these valvebodies laying around. Its not that difficult.

Well it won't be the dealership installing the transmission. It's New England Transmission, the shop that orginally installed the "heavy-duty" tranny. They are taking the heavy-duty one out and installing a stock transmission in. I just wasn't sure if I should ask them about that, or just keep it simple and straight forward considering all the mess I've been through.

oh, sorry, last i read you were going to the dealership. I see now.

They will probably drill the valvebody out. They valves are too expensive for most shops.

Drilling will work but the valves are a better way.

Id bring this topic up with them and see what they say.
