Default Pulled The Boat Out...

First time I have pulled the boat with the dodge, it is a 26', weights in at 8200lb with the trailer, fuel and gear. The truck did a fantastic job pulling it 20 miles, even on some very steep hill climbs, and on the interstate. Here's some pictures.

My son in law pulled a 9000lb fifth wheel alover the southeast and even in to indiana with a 1996 1500 5.2 engine for abt 4 years with never a hint of tranny problems. He finally traded the truck with the same tranny from the showroom floor. His secret was never tow in o/d and change the fluid every year with atf4. I think a lot of dodges tranny is neglect and abuse . Thet are tough trucks but I dont think jumping ditches and climbing mountains is good for any tranny and believe me I have jumped my share of ditches and climbed a few mountains in my 67 years. So fellars take better care of your trannys and maby you want be buying a new one every yr or so JMHO tboss

Yeah, I agree. I think a lot of it is improper use and maintinence, however there are some that are just lemons too.

i think a big problem is a lot of us buy used truck with higher mileage that wasnt maintenanced very well in its younger years. i know a lot of trucks dont get there tranny flushed before the first 30k. thats just sad.

I agree, maintenance is key with these trannys. The transmission currently in the truck was rebuilt about 30,000 miles ago. I always change the fluid every 10,000 miles, and since I installed a drain in the pan it takes about as long as an engine oil change to do. Also, I wired the O/D switch to lock out every time the truck is turned on, you have to push the switch to turn it O/D on now.

Good for him? That's rare and you know it. The Transmissions in these trucks are massive POS.
