Impressive, Squirrels!

I'm glad you were able to sort out the heater hose/CTS issue. Which tune are you going to use at start-up?

I ran the conservative 87 octane tune. Then I switched to the 93 octane. No ping thusfar.

Initial impressions:

When I first fired her up, she sputtered cackled like a miniature funny car. It took a good while for the PCM to figure out what the heck was going on. Then she smoothed out and the engine has never idled so smoothly.

Accelerating is different now, it doesn't hitch and hang at the top of each gear, it just pulls straight thru to the shift and keeps pulling. I wonder if that's the intake pulling power throughout.

And when you step on it, it's a whole different tone. I don't know how exactly to describe it, it's almost like the intake resonates and it HOWLS!

A lot of people have pmed me wondering if I thought that I would loose bottom end. The answer is, I'm not sure. The whole thing accelerates different now, it's smoother all over, and doesn't jerk at the shift points like it did before. I did notice that the truck pulls itself at a faster MPH at idle, so I'd imagine the torque has increased a bit.

I'll report again in a few hundred miles as the Hughes site swears you need a PCM break in for this intake.

Great! Sounds like you successfully divorced the keg!

Aren't you running a round air cleaner? I run one on mine and enjoy hearing those throttle blades open. Good luck keeping your foot out of it!

I read this whole thing today. You've had quite an ordeal. Good to hear it's doing good now and hope you have cured it completely.

Awesome to hear you have the install done Squirrel! I look forward to hearing how it runs after a couple hundred miles or so...

I noticed the temp sensor reads a lot hotter than it has in the past. It rockets up to 195* and stays there for a while before the E fans kick on to cool the engine. I'm gonna try to swap in a 180* T-stat and see how the runs for a bit.

Here's some pic of it installed. Sorry for the dirt, Silver_Dodge hasn't stopped by to clean my engine bay!

Passenger side:

You can see from this front angle pic that the intake is almost invisible:

Here you can see how much more room there is to work on the driver's side. Putting the Disty cap back on was almost a pleasure! I might have to get a sharpie out and add the firing order on the frame rail somewhere, I fogot that it was cast onto the old manifold. I had to go remind myself when I was pushing wires back on.

Clean install, Squirrels, but without the fan shroud, where do you set your tools? .

Let us know if you throw any codes with your new setup. BTW, where does that hose coming off your driver side VC breather go? The Gibbys still look good too.
