Default Air intake safest for off roading

Me and some buddies are starting to go off roading with our trucks/dirtbikes/atv's. I still have my stock air intake and always wanted to buy a better one. Any suggestions on the best intake that would stay safe in mud pits/puddles or swampy areas?

Keep your stock intake, drop in a new filter.

True. I was just wondering if there were any after market for off roading besides the stock(which is probably safest)

You can probably find some performance CAIs that use a filter in a box setup pulling air from the the stock air hole in the fender, which might give you some boost. Honestly though, unless you find a ridiculously good deal on one, I'd just get a K&N drop-in or something along those lines for your stock air box.

you could prolly use a volant, seal it, and use a pvc pipe end to block off the aux hole.

Wasn't there a guy on here not too long ago that locked his motor up from trying to go in mud with a CAI? I'd either keep stock or fab up a snorkle of some sort. I wouldn't run a open element or a CAI if I was going in mud.
