you can save up the 1000$ for a new set in the time it takes to rack up 20,000 miles.

that's about what it cost for the 285 70 tires in a few good brands and 20,000 miles from now it will probably cost that much for 255/265 70 tires.

i wish i would have thought to save up when i still had a while on my last set of tires.

would you buy them again if you could go back? reason why I'm asking is because my truck has a lot of miles on it and I really don't want to spend a lot of money on tires. that being said I drive close to 60 miles a day 7 days a week. you can do the math and that's a bunch of miles so I just want to know if you think they'll hold up

if youre changin the oil every 3k, and doing the routine maintence, yours truck will last another 237k, but $500(retreads) vs. $1000(new) which would you want? tires arent cheap, theres no way youre gonna find a 285/70 17 any cheaper than that, it is a fairly uncommon tire size, and because of that it costs more than your average common tire, say 33x12.50 15, or a 285/75 16

you can do what you want, but in my mind it makes more sense to buy a retread and save a few hundred bucks.

oh, and if the truck goes, you still have the tires, and you can always sell those, or use them on your next truck.

I'm glad this thread is still stirring up thought...I sold the truck to my brother and bought a chevy with a 454 which im building up....Once the tires are shot on that truck I'm going right back to the treadwrights. Hope they treat you as well as they treated me sheriff. Keep in mind, if your buying a mud tire and your driving on the road 24/7 they're going to wear alittle faster and like a mud tire. BUT good news...my friend with a 2500 put on Nittos the same time i put these on...and mine wore better =P

Still running mine. I wish I knew how many miles I had on them, but I cant remember. Put them on in July of 2008. As I stated earlier in this thread for those who might not have read back that far. These tires are excellent. Road noise will increase a little as they wear more. This is the 3rd vehicle I have ran them on. One of which had over 45k on them when I sold it with some life still left.

notanexit, what size are you looking for? and are you looking for a street or an all terrain/mud tire?
if it were me, i'd buy a retread if i wasn't sure of the longevity of the vehicle i was putting the tires on. that is why i bought used tires for my camaro and the thunderbird. actually, with the thunderbird, i put a few different sets on, then bought new, then when they wore out i went back to used.

smokegrinder, i got the bfg a/t wanna be tires instead of the bfg m/t wanna be tires. so i'm hoping that they'll last a little longer.

before i bought mine i googled treadwright and the other name that the company went by and i didn't see a single negative review by anyone that actually has a set. the only bad mouthing you will hear is from people that are scared to run re treads and have never actually had a set. they are also really popular on the tacoma and jeep forums.

so i just might buy another set when mine wear out. especially since when they do, my size (285 70 17) will probably be closer to 300$ a tire.
