fair price?

$7800 is what Edmunds.com says its worth trade-in value wise if its fully loaded with every stinking option there is except the diesel or V10, and its silver in color (I didn't know the color, but silver seems to be worth the most, so I threw that in there just to give you a high figure). I'd still try to talk them down a little more, and like everyone else said, get the thing completely tested by a mechanic you trust.
$2000 is way to low-balling. I understand the point of negotiation, but thats so low that dealer will probably say "screw you buddy, you're not serious about this, get off the lot". I've seen it happen to friends before.
A warranty is always "money in their pockets" initially. God forbid someone make a profit in this country. However, do you know they are trustworthy? If you know the dealership and like them, and trust them, I'd go for the extended like you are. You get one tranny rebuild, there's probably most of the warranty right there.
My two cents.

its two tone white with silver on the bottom, its got almost all the options except the information center on the ceiling and the self tinting rear mirror. I work for a garage and i checked everything out its all solid, needs oil change but whatever i would do that to a new truck anyhow. we do all the mech and body work for this dealer and they are trustworthy, ive used their warranty program befor and they gave me zero problems, just called said it broke down we have it at this shop and they sent the check for the estimate

A car dealer's purpose in life is to move vehicles. It costs him a lot of money to keep a truck around for long periods. Sometimes these guys will take a low price just to get it off the lot so they don't have to look at it anymore. They know they'll make up the diff on some other chicken who comes in there to get "plucked." I have had dealers yell at me. So what? It's a cuthroat business. But, guess what? If that truck is still sitting there 3 weeks later, you have a bargaining chip. You think these people aren't going to play harball with you? Guess again!
Everything considered, I wouldn't pay more than 6k for a 9 yo rusty truck with a snow plow (in Houston). I guess they're worth more in Ohio.

well i found the truck cause they gave it to my shop to put a new windshield wiper motor in it, they havnt even inventoried the truck yet so they arnt trying to play ball to much yet, they tried the "oh well we have 3 people lined up waitin for the truck" card i just laughed and continued the conversation. he started at 8995 and knocked it down to 7800 + 540 for the 3 year 30k power trane warranty. but at the same time i have garenteed plow work and its suppose to snow this week lol so idk what to do... and edmunds gives that price of 7,495 not including the plow.... figure even a used old western plow still worth at least 1200

That's a tuff situation you got there tazman. Your truck is pretty sweet, I think. You sure you wanna let it go? I would worry about any truck with a snow plow on it and wonder if it's been abused or not. The fear of the unknown is what makes it so crappy. Personally, I don't think I would want the 2500 with the 5.9 and 4-spd auto...but that's just me. The motor is weak enough (unless you fix it and mod it) in a 1500, then add the weight of the 2500, and it's even more weak. What tranny does it have...47RE? It's your call, but I would want to be sure it was a solid deal first. Your Sport is a sweet ride, and I'd hate to see you get rid of it, only to regret it later. But, if you trust them and don't think you'd have any issues with the warranty should you need it, I say do what makes you happy. At the end of the day, it's all about what you want...not everyone else's opinion.

assuming that its 4wd, and that you either want the plow, up live up north where you can sell it for $500 or so, i'd estimate it at $6500. if you have no use for the plow, and/or can't sell it, then its $6000. that's it, no more. its a 9 yr old rusty truck from up north thats been used for plowing. see kbb private party for semi-fair values.
dealers make lots of money by paying $2000-3000 trade in for a truck like that and selling it for $8-9000. they can often make more by screwing over a seller and a buyer on a used truck than they can by just screwing over the buyer of a new one. beware.

yup gonna deny them on this truck too it out for a drive today transfer case is whining in 4x4 when you let off the gas, looked under the truck and the tailshaft is soaking wet, that seal is a 30 min job to replace no big deal, but who knows how long the transfer has been low on fluid and possibly fried, and the exhaust manifold is rusted out and leaking... ill keep my truck, just gotta put shocks on it
