Zman17 -- The black composite bushing you speak of, is this the one in the shifting fork inside the Tcase? I'm currently going thru a little different problem as mine will not shift into High 4WD, but as I continue will go into low 4WD. In both cases the dash light is on and shift lever seems to move normal.

The bushing is in the end of the outer shaft where it connects to the inner shaft. Its hard to see, you'll just see the thin lip of it in between the 2 shafts.

You got to do the same thing as previously stated. Check all the vacuum hoses . Including the ones coming from the engine. There is also a vacuum switch on the transfer case that can be removed and cleaned. Just follow the hoses form the axle and you will see it.

so i figured out the grinding was because of the snap ring broke on the rear output shaft of the transfer case. I put a standard snap ring in and ordered a transfer case saver piece, the 4wd worked with the standard snap ring then i put the transfer case saver in and now it wont engage.

That maybe just a bad connection at the switch on the CAD or the switch is no good. So the grinding is gone and it's fully engaging to 4hi ?

I was told by my Trans-Mechanic the Snap/Ring does
break quite often and that Mopar had a up-grade for this problem.
