oh well, yes your oil cooler could add another qt to oil capacity, also it takes the pump a little while to fill that up, as well as anything else that drained, also, under certain conditions the fluid in the tc can drain back into the pan.

so yeah, i'd add 1/4 qt at a time until i got it where i wanted.

yea i think ill do that tomorrow, ill ad 1/4 quart till i see it go up on the dipstick and if i put to much i guess i could always drain a little out.

i also figured out my rearend dont have posi so i dont need the oil modifier, so i should have the axles done tommorow also.

so after this tranny oil change, when do you think i should change the tranny oil and filter again? days? months? miles? i was planning on a 1500 mile trip in a few days.

if the fluid you drained out was really nasty, and everything inside had a heavy coat of sludge (the gray stuff)....

i'd do the second filter change before i drove 1500 miles away from my garage on a long dark cold lonely road where i don't want to be stranded. i'd also try to drive it as much as possible between now and then. it might be overkill, but that's what i'd do.

well its doing ok so far, after the trany oil and filter change and adding the cooler, i had to ad 8 and a half quarts ! so i took it on a trip, 800 miles, with a 2500lb dual axle car trailer and a 1971 4000lb dodge charger on the trailer ( only had the car on the trailer half of the trip) everything went fine besides a blow out on the car trailer. i ended up not changing the oil in the trany 2 times, but i may do it very soon after this trip.
