Another towing thread
Im a new guy here, Recently purchased a 2000 1500 QC 5.9 AT 4x4. I aslo am in need of advice on towing with this thing, I have searched through the threads with some help but none the less what are my chances of towing a 30' Travel trailer with this thing, The only mods I can see are is a K&N air filter and an aftermarket Tranny coller which seems to be quite a large one. Also it goes with out saying that I need a brake controller for the electric brakes which I am new to, not towing but using electric brakes. What do I want to look for in choosing a controller.
personaly i think any one going to put a 5th wheel on a 1500 is nuts! or a 30ft camper via hitch heres one

thanks for the input, I ques i should have been a little more in depth, i have no plans of hauling more than 100 mile way, mainly will stay within 50 or less0 according to the registered weight i am within limits, 5600+ dry weight i am just worried about wind drag
you can tow with a 1/2 ton ride [i do], just dont go over the weight ratings for the truck, axles, and combined weight.
as far as brake controllers go, im not sure if your truck has a harness for one in the cab, my 95 does not, but usually the digital ones are good, if you want to spend the money, but an analog one with the 'pendiulm' will be fine [and for less $$$]

Take a look at "Prodigy" brake controllers. They are one of the best ones on the market. I have one and love it. Also towing a trailer of that length I would recommend that you get a good weight distribution hitch with sway controll. I recommend the "equalizer" brand hitch. That is the one I have and again one of the best there is. Do a search the forums in trailerlife.com and you can find a lot of info on both of them there.

You could pick up an old ford 250 or dodge 250 for around $3000 and save at least that much in repairs on your 1500. While fords suck in general they are cheap and the old mechanically injected 7.3 diesels are reliable and pull very well. My uncle recently got an 86 ford 350 for his boat yard and that thing pulls very well and he got it for $2300 down here in georgia.
