Default Turbo 400 Transmission

I was wondering if anyone has ever put a turbo 400 Transmission on one of our dodges. They are used a lot with jeeps and other 4wd as a heavy duty towing and wheeling trany. TCI auto makes an adapter plate to mate up with the Chrysler 318. You'd probably also need the GM 4wd transfer case and torque converter. Other then the mechanics it would probably just come down to electronics for compatibility.

The reason i bring it up is that i have a friend who's replacing his auto turbo 400 with a new one with a manual valve body and has no use for the old one. And i figure since the dodge tranys are known for dieing this might be a interesting project and a bullet proof trany.

interesting.... Sounds like quite the project. Keep us posted with plenty of pictures if you decide to do it. I missed my episode of xtreme4x4 last weekend so this should make up for it

I'm sure it doable.
Guess it depends if the costs out weigh the benefits.
Your 94 is a good candidate for the swap as there isn't as much computer control.

Im not so sure i have the skill or shop to do it any time soon. ( in college/poor/in college) but the truck means alot to me and the trany would probably be the most expensive thing to go on it anytime soon. If it seems feasible my friend with the trany might be the one to help me with the conversion.

If switching to a 3-speed go with a Torqueflite A727, keep it Mopar. From what I have been told the strongest OEM trans is the T400, followed by the A727, then the C6. Why bother with adapters and new t-cases when you can just bolt up a trans that will be plenty strong?

My long term pipe dream plans for my truck are either to go fill kill with my 5.9 and bolt a A727 up, or switch to a 4BT and a T400.

That is interesting. If I ever loose my 46RE, I would rather do a conversion like you're talking about. Seems like the PCM is the limiting factor. Let us know what you find out.

Putting a 400 in sounds like alot of work. Just go with a 727. You shouldnt need to mess with the computer. Its an RH unit. You may just need to "trick" the o/d and lockup solenoid so they dont throw a code.

I would say that the A727 is stronger than a turbo 400. I know it`s at least as strong.
