Well if you are feeling a lack of power that doesnt have anything to do with the tranny... other than it has a "deep" od.

I forget the actual ratio, but I belive its .67, that is up there... not uncommon for a od, and depending on the ford your talking about it could be a differnt ratio there.
Also ive noticed my 318 and 360s included are not stump pullers down low in the rpms they like to rev more so than the chevy 350 truck engine (at least the tbi), and than ford 351 ect ect which would make that feeling.

I think that you worry too much, dont let it bother you... as long as its not bogging down, you should NOT have to give it more throttle to keep gaining speed, and should accelerate just as smoothly as it would in any other gear, same with the shift its self... it should shift in firmly but not neck jaring.

I think what you're feeling is the torque converter locking up and unlocking. It should get into overdrive at around 30 MPH under light throttle and lock up around 45 or so.

My truck goes into lockup around 42mph, and then it will shift into overdrive around 48mph if I'm not accelerating. It has plenty of power, it just feels like it doesn't really want to stay into overdrive, especially when I'm stuck behind somebody going around 50mph. My truck shifts into 2nd at around 10mph, shifts into third around 20, and then goes into lockup around 39-40, then overdrive at 48mph.

Mine does that too, but I think it is b/c I get aggravated behind slow ppl and when they move I push that gas so hard it drops out of OD. That could be it. The OD on these trucks is weak...it has been said on here many times, and I believe it to be true. But the thing is, OD is not made for city driving, hard acceleration, etc. It is made for the highways and saving gas at a constant speed, so it really doesn't bother me that it shifts out so easily.

Gears. That's how mine acted when I had 35's and 4.10's. 4.56's cured it. Also, get your speedo corrected for your incorrect tire size. The PCM uses the rpm's and speedo among other things when determining the kickout of OD. It may not be behaving properly if you haven't adjusted for the tires, speedo is off.

Before I got changed the gears in my truck, it would hop in and out of OD quite a bit at anything under 75mph. (That was with 3.55 and 37" tires.) After the gear change, it didn't do it near as much. (Now has 4.56 and 37" tires) Now that I have replaced the tranny, it seems to want to stay in OD longer than I like. I think I may need to adjust the TV linkage a little to get it to shift out of it a little sooner.

I would first check the TV cable. By slightly adjusting it, you may get it to act more like you are wanting. I believe to do this, you'll need to move the cable position about 1/8" toward the firewall, but if not, it is simple enough to move it back the other direction. Just make sure no more than 1/8" at most each time!!! This would cause it to shift into OD earlier and keep it in OD longer. PLEASE don't move that cable more than about 1/8" at a time!!! There have been many discussions on this in various threads.

Other than the cable needing adjusted, my next guess would be the TPS, or maybe a simplentune-up is in order. How dirty is the air filter, and how old are the spark plugs?
