46re Overdrive

In a 96 long bed 4X4 we had the same issue. What we found was that the tranny would "hunt" a little excessively for overdrive as the TP Sensor went bad. A gear change made a big improvement but pricey. We moved the shift points up some with the TV cable and that helped too. But the best mod we did (in my opinion) was the Transgo TFOD Diesel shift kit. On a 5.9 gas truck. (Transgo recommended it specifically for this application.) Huge improvement to shift firmness, and when it went into lock up it hits firm and stays there. Not harsh either. Around $100 from Summit. Piece of cake to put in.
As I understand it too, a flash can set a higher lock up target in the PCM, but it's still just a target - Actual lock up is hydraulic. Beautiful truck by the way.

I'm not so sure gearing should be an issue. I am running 285 tires with 4.10 gearing; that should probably be right on the money speedometer wise.
I don't think there is a "problem", I just feel like dodges in general seem to make a big deal about overdrive. Maybe it's because they are built up more than other trucks, but when I drive my dad's f-150 or my dad's truck, they shift like a car almost. My truck gets into overdrive around 48-49mph, so it sucks getting behind people doing 45 in a 45 because I don't want to sit there hovering around overdrive, but not actually being in it. Once it's in overdrive and nobody is in my way, it operates very nicely. That's all I mean though.

Problem with 01 ram tranny
I recently purchased an 01 dodge ram 1500 sport off-road with roughly 105,000 miles on it. The truck has the 5.9 with the 46re automatic and 4.10 gearing. The truck runs like a champ, except i've been noticing that when i am cruising at highway speeds in overdrive it occasionally likes to jump 100rmps or roughly and return to it's normal engine rpms. it tends to do this more when cruise control is activated, and when i hit bumps it occasionally causes the transmission to do this also. I have noticed the problem after the truck has been running for a little while at operating temperature. I was wondering if there is anything i can do to fix this.
