put a cummins in my truck

Consider the 4bt. It is the 5.9 minus two cylinders. Popular for half tons and get great mileage. My pipe dream is to do this conversion.

There is no point to it. In order to do the swap, you are looking at a different tranny, suspension, computer, dash, its not worth it. Not to mention, you are probably going to have to cut a hole in the floor of your truck if you want the manual tranny.
like someone else said above you will keep the body and the seats, the rest changes.
I think it would be cool swap, but for the same money you could make one hell of a 2500. The next time you are at the store pick up a Diesel Power Mag a flip through it.
There is a guy that has been featured on the mag with an orange and blue truck that was putting out over 2,000 in torque. I had the privilige of seeing that truck in person... that Dodge demands respect.
If you are serious about doing it I would buy a dak and put the 5.9 in there.

You guys over think stuff. The easiest way to do it is to find the same year donor truck that has been wrecked and rob everything off that. Unless you want to have the front sit lower, you'll want to put some beefier springs in the front to get the original ride height back. Depending what you do to the motor as far as adding boost and power, you may or may not need to upgrade in other areas. I raced a 1970 maverick into the 11's in the 1/4 mile on the original spicer 6cyl rearend. Everybody and their brother told me it wouldn't last a week. 3 years later it finally gave up the ghost when I tried to do a dry burnout on slicks and the spiders let loose, almost welded them up and left well enough alone lol All depends how what you want to do with it and what sort of driving you expect to be doing.
I heard the same things when I talked about my V10 swap into a 1/2 ton, everything from the "frame will crack" "just buy a 2500" "rearend won't last long" blah blah blah, point is most of the guys givin advice on these forums don't know diddly and their mechanical expierience has been based on changin thier tires once with dads help. So I say go for it if thats what you want to do and don't let anyone talk you out of it or discourage you. When it's done you can put up a in your face naysayers thread and have something unique when your done. I have given thought to a 12v cummins into a rcsb 2wd truck, but I'll stick to my original V10 plan which should be done before summers over.
