Now I'm wondering. I have a 98 1500 QC and the abs/brake guage lights are on all the time. My speedo doesn't start working until 25-28 mph. Also, there is a noise from the rear end. My back keeps me from investigating, but a mechanic friend said there was no metal in the rear end and figured it was the abs sensor. If the speed and abs sensors are combined, it would explain everything. My speedo acted up a few months after the rear end noise and abs/brake light starting. Ram07 is there noise from your (Ram) rear end that gets louder and higher pitched with speed?

My first 2nd gen Ram (a 1995 2WD Club Cab) had the ABS light come on at one point...an ABS sensor was replaced under warranty.

I'm now (after a 12yr hiatus) on my 2nd - 2nd gen Ram (a 1996 4WD CC) - and in the last month the ABS light came on...first thing I'm checking is that ABS sensor.

The VSS can still be bad even if the speedo works. And did you clean/check the contacts in the plug itself?

just take te sensor off above the rear diff... give it a good cleaning and reinstall it... be very carefull when tighten it back on... it should only be a little more snug than finger tight

My ABS light was on all the time, and my speedo wasn't working untill it got to about 25 to 30. I drive a 99 1500 with RWAL. I changed the Diff speed sensor, located on top of the rear differential housing, and it fixed the problem. My speedo works perfect and the ABS light went out. So i guess, if you have RWAL, the Vehicle Speed sensor and the ABS speed sensor is combined. Hope this helps.

was it the abs sensor on top of the diff??

i took the abs sensor off and clean it and the light didn't come back on for about 20sec compared to 3sec.....
